Title: New Rx7 - Few Q\'s
Post by: JayRX7 on October 20, 2003, 09:08:31 AM
Picked up this Rx7 a few weeks ago now. It\'s not yet registered so going to sort that in the next week or so. It\'s got quite a few mods to the engine and a paddle clutch which takes some getting use too.

It\'s a 92 Type R with 40000 miles on the clock and BIMTA cert too.

Just a couple of things I want to know.

1. The side skirts are a plastic kind of material which have been sprayed so will crack very easy - can anyone tell me where I can get some different style side skirts on the uk.

2. Also, silly I know, but I need 3 new wiper blades for it. Anyone know the size etc and can I get them from some where like halfords ?!?

Oh and heres a pic. Any help is much appreciated,

Hi Jay ,

If your skirts are replayed by a good body shop they will add plasticizer to the paint so it won\'t crack.

Yes Halfords have a listing for your blades.

Hope this helps

p.s. you got a real nice looking car there

All the best Clive

Jay, have a look under the Aero Products on Taka Kaira (http://www.takakaira.co.jp/). Lots of nice stuff. ;)

Dude,

You have a nice car.

The Side skirts you have are MAZDA items.
Mine are a little cracked.

Side skirts.

You have a Veilside front bar and IMO the Veilside skirts are gems.
They follow the lines of the car well.

But if you want something different there are about 100 different kinds here in Japan.
There are a heap of Jap links on my site.
Have fun selecting.

I still havnt settled on a front bar yet. Too many to choose from.

If you dont want full skirts you can get the carbon feed ones. Very nice.

Also the paddle clutch. I\'m not using it for race days or anything like that so would I be better off putting a standard clutch in to make it a little easier to drive I.e sat in traffic for work etc.

Would it cost a lot to get sorted?

I\'m looking at getting my rex \'sorted\' as it\'s needing a rebuild soonish and discussed the clutch issue with one of the experts n the forum here (looking to end up mildly ported, de-catted and ECU\'d up).

I was reluctant to go down the 2 plate clutch route as I do most of my time in London traffic.  His suggestion was an uprated single plate as a decent compromise.

Should be okay for the power levels but may not be up to serious hammering on drag strips and the like...  Still in 2 minds on this as temptation is always there!  :D

A twin plate may be a bit much on your ankle if you really do spend a lot of time sat in traffic...

I\'ve driven my twin plate to/from work/round town for 12 months but I dont generally have to sit in traffic for TOO long as a rule. It\'s a lot more effort than a stock clutch but I think its worth it. I wonder NEVER consider any thing but a twin plate in my car now as the bite and feel is fantastic...

They are a sh*t to get use to initially but once you\'re used to it its not that bad IMO. Some are a bit rattly compared to others btw. If you see big(ger) power and trips to the pod in the near future - or drive like a tw*t most of the time (guilty as charged!) get a twin plate.

R.

Oh, on the cost front a decent twin would be about £1200 and an uprated single maybe as \'little\' as half that...

Yep, Exedy for e.g. are about £700-£800 for the single and £1200-£1400 for the twin. They both come in kits with a lightened flywheel as standard too though...

Very nice car m8, i\'d like to add some skirts on my new purchase if i can find where from!

Afaik mine has the Twin Clutch, it\'s hard to get used to and the bite point is next to nothing, very heavy to, specially for little me.

Only got my car last tuesday and it\'s deffinatly had a few things done to it, problem is im not sure what. It doesnt apear to be restricted either.

They do indeed, just remember to figure in shipping (can be astronomical for some items!) and import duty and vat when looking at pricing...

I would only use it for reference, as they are expensive when it comes to getting parts in to the UK. I would look at some of the UK companies for body parts.
