Hi,
Only just picked my new FD up on Thursday. Went up to visit some friends this weekend up North and some kind woman decided to park her pug 405 on the front of it. :(
Fortunetly the woman has admitted all liability (she reversed into me whilst I was stationary) and I\'ve got three witnesses who all saw what she did. I couldn\'t even bring myself to be angry \'cos she was so shaken up. We had to drive her back to my mate\'s house because we were worried about her driving in the state she was in.
The damage seems to be purely cosmetic but it\'s made a hell of a mess of my nice mazdaspeed fibreglass nose. Not sure if it\'ll be possible to repair it but I suspect it may be a job to source a replacement?!?

hmm - can you even spot the damage.
Is there any justice in this world??
:(
Her insurance company are going to be more shaken up when they get the repair bill. The parts will have to be sourced from Japan, and they will cost a bomb.
Try RE:Worx, think they can get Mazdaspeed items. Be carefull and make sure that the insurance company are going to pay in full!
Really sad to see the car looking like that. Hope its sorted with no problems.
What can you say, You have to look on the bright side at least it was\'nt a Car park hit and run! It will be sorted out.
Chris
exactly what I thought but still a bit gutting when you can still count the time you have owned the car in hours :(
Makes it worse that I\'ve been driving nearly ten years and never had an accident in all that time.
I don\'t reckon there should be any problems given that I\'ve got her full details and she seemed a decent person. Failing that, the missus is a lawyer!
As you say, it could have been a hit and run or some twat without insurance.
really unluckly - not even had it a week!!! Real bummer whenever it happens. Hopefully, it will all be sorted out by insurance without too much hassle.
If you do manage to convince the insurance to change the nose, drop me a line - I will have the old one off you. (bloody hell - I\'m turning into a vulture!!! Te he he! -).
That hurts.....I know \'cos same thing happened to me. 36 hours of proud ownership & I was reversed into. Don\'t know whether it made it worse, but the culprit was my wife, reversing her stupid 4wd. My fault, obviously, because the RX was "too low to see in the mirrors...." Yeah, right......
Hope you get it sorted out - good move to have a camera handy btw - should help the insurance company.
Neil
This seems to be a common occurance, do you think it is because these cars are just that bit too low for your average joe to take notice of?
Dave.
Have to say though your car looks lovely and shiny :D
Nothing quite like a good buff :)
cheers and thanks for the sympathy.
taking the car to some people I know to assess the damage tomorrow.
Spoke to the woman\'s insurance broker today and he doesn\'t think there should be a problem - wants me to send him the quote for repair. He seemed to think that they would only need an independent assessor to check the damage if the bill was high... hmm.. :D
I said I\'m quite happy for independent assessment if they want but I\'m going to make sure the work is done by someone I trust! Paintwork and repair on glass fibre is a pain in the a*se and I don\'t want it to look like a bag \'o sh*t in a few months time.
I think you\'re right Dave - I\'ve had 2/3 narrow escapes as well as the wifey-panel-bash. People trying to reverse out of a parking space whilst I\'m crawling along trying to spot an empty slot, seems to be a popular one. Second most popular would be pulling out in front to overtake someone, having not seen me in the outside lane. I now drive with sidelights on all the time (not what I had in mind when I bought a nice sports car) & am developing a healthy ncp-phobia...........Neil
you should be able to get that fixed easy for about £200, i crashed my car with a fibre glass bumper and the thing was much worse, nearly and half and its fine now
Sorry to read about you situation, there are a couple of things I\'d consider if you haven\'t already.
You say \'they\' are sending out an assesor - he will be working on their behalf so I\'d pay and find my own independant assesor to supply \'me\' with a report.
If you prang an ordinary car, no matter how small the dent, the first question the garage ask \'is it an insurance claim?\' if you say yes then it\'s a new wing, door etc. No question of a repair.
I would insist on a new nose - you didn\'t buy it with a damaged/repaired nose so why should you settle for one now. Different if it was your fault but it wasn\'t.
Good luck.
John
I\'d definitely push for a new nose cone as well (and damn that one isn\'t cheap!) as no matter how good the repair job, it will always be weaker than the original and therefore the longevity of the nose will be shortened considerably.
Sorry to hear about the bump as well, good luck getting it sorted

Hi
Real sorry to hear of your problems with your car.
If you wish we can get involved to make sure you get this repaired properly.
Unfortunately it\'s very unlikely that you will find a replacement nose cone over here as l think this is a Mazdaspeed after market part.
However yours can be repaired perfecectly well indeed it will probably be stronger than standard and you will never know this has been repaired but the nose will have to be removed to make this so as the repair has to be made from the inside.
l do not work for the company l am about to tell you of but l can assure you they have not only repaired my car a couple of times ! but have also painted repaired etc many RX-7\'s over the last few years and are very familiar with these cars and are not that far from you ( Nr Dartford Tunnel ).
Ask for John on 01322 381868 tell him Clive sent you from Mazdarotaryclub.
Hope this helps.
All the best Clive

The nose is the Mazdaspeed RX-7 A-Spec GT-Concept nose.
Luckily this is one of the few Mazdaspeed body parts still in production and I would think you could source one from Japan without too much trouble. I think the cost for a genuine one will be eye-watering (well over a grand), but hey, it\'s on the insurance!
I would talk to Ross - I\'m pretty sure he could get one shipped over. And you will need to get it air-freighted too, as if it goes on a container (the cheap route that everyone uses) it will take about 8 weeks to get here.
If you can get the old nose cone back too I\'ll be willing to buy it from you ;)

I love these noses soooo much, Anyone interested in a group buy ?, I would also be interested in the damaged one...
Just need to buy a car....
Tom:rollin
God - you lot are like a load of vultures :P
LOL - reminds me of a story once recounted to me by someone who went to a trackday and someone crashed an original cossie. The car was a complete write off but the driver was ok.
Whilst he stood there surveying his wrecked pride and joy, he was surrounded by a mass of people uttering statements like "Sorry mate, bad luck, you must be gutted.... er how much do you want for the wheels?"
Anyway, having spoken to a specialist accident repair friend of mine, it sounds like it\'s going to be feasible but not cheap to repair the spoiler. It should look like new by the time they\'ve finished. :)
Hopefully he insurance should pay up without any hassels especially since it\'s still going to be cheaper than the source a new one option!
If its any consolation the rear of the car seems a lot tougher. I\'ve been rear-ended (oo-er) a few times in mine and I only ever get tiny little scratches - it seems to have a little give in it :)

I\'m rather hoping (said touching plenty of wood here) that I can have at least another 10 years of accident free motoring again!
Just about to phone up her broker to find out what\'s going on so I\'m keeping my fingers crossed...
At long last looks like my car should be back to it\'s original glory within the next two weeks! Finally got the go-ahead from the woman\'s insurance company.
The assessor was a top bloke, took one look and went "I bet you must be gutted, looks like a good quote to me" and then spent half an hour just chatting to me about the car and rotory engines! LOL
So roll on the 25th.
:cool
glad to hear it\'ll be fixed soon. Just got a quote for some repair work where my neighbour reversed into my door. Wasn\'t as bad as it could\'ve been but I think he\'ll have a shock though!
