Title: Grinding fifth gear change
Post by: D1 WTF on April 24, 2006, 10:18:22 PM
as i put my rex into fifth there is a grinding (not too bad/at the moment anyway) just before it fully clicks in as such.  it is absolutely fine when in fifth.  but everytime i go for fifth it is the same problem?

i told my dad and he thought that it sounds like the syncro is going.

anyone got any ideas?

will it just get worse or ?

what are my options?

I think (correct me if im wrong) that this (fifth gear/synchro) is a known problem with FD\'s.You could change the trans. oil first and see if this improves it..If not then you\'ll probably need to take the box out and get it fixed.HTH..

i had this problem on my first rx. apparently it is due to people leaving there cars in fifth gear too much. should only really be used for motorway driving (rotechniks told me anyway). When i had my gearbox changed i also had new clutch etc

5th gear synchro for sure. If u rev-match your shifts it will be fine. Alternatively just ignore the graunch for now...

My first rx did this but never got any worse so left it, year later sold the car with the same grinding but nothing was effected as such ? Told the new owner about it anyhow  :cheers

But if you can obviously have it sorted  :3gears-lh
