Post by: davehg on April 24, 2006, 07:57:07 PM
ok my single turbo fd is just too loud for nearly all track days as its about 118db at 3 k i believe. how do i silence it to about 105 (i think most tracks are about 108 but correct me if im wrong) but i dont want to loose power on the track.

cheers

Have you got your wastegate plumbed into your downpipe?  If its your exhaust thats loud there another thread starting re the Apexi active silencer, works on a spring system, makes things a bit quieter, not sure by how much at 3k.

But this will kill some power. Another option is to see exhaust system people are running and how loud they are.

The best time for this os at shows.

The bung kills a bit of power, does putting the wastegate into the downpipe also kill power?

Its a toss up, bit less power and get on the track or vice versa.  I would think most don;t use all the power they have on track whereas up the strip its more important.

my wastegate isnt plumbed into the exhaust, to be honest id rather have it for the strip than track but its good to take it round the track every so often

Dave, mine just about scraped through at Combe at the weekend, and that has a limit of 100db.

My exhaust consists of: Greddy downpipe, RE:Worx silenced centre, Kakimoto backbox. Don\'t know how much that helps you though, because as you know I\'m still on the twins.

Dont think you can make it quiet without loosing some power.

You can change the exhaust for one with greater silencing capabality, or you can run a bung.

TRack days fall into the 97/98db range, 100/102db and \'noisy\' days where there\'s no limit.  There are a few 105db days at Sliverstone and brands.  Many are going down the 98db route or facing closure :(

At 118db you\'re really looking at a major rework of the whole exhaust system.  Ben was managing a staggering 127db on drive by at a good 50\' distance at Brands!!!

If you have a streight through cat replacement then you could go for a silenced replacement and look to get a better back box.  Money will get you significantly quieter with little loss of flow!

You\'ll probably lose a massive amount of volume by plumbing it in with no bad side effects!

Anyone know where you can get a bung from?  surely that is the answer???   Put it in for the track day, loose a little power, take it out when you are finished.  You could even put it in for the DB test and take your chances removing it for the rest of the track day, if you get pulled again put it back in.

Just need to find a 5" bung for my blitz or somehow make one  :)

May be of interest, otherwise, making one counld be fairly straight forward....

Give me the exact internal diameter of your exhaust tip and let me know what you want the bungs inner diameter to be....2" ?? 2.5" ??

I\'ll get you one made for beer tokens if you can give me a while... :cheers
I wont look pretty I warn you but it will do the job :chat

Yep, NURSPEC does have an optional bung as standard iirc.

Let me have the dimensions mate...
