Title: Strange noises and pipes with no hoses? pls help
Post by: GAZ666 on April 24, 2006, 06:25:26 PM
After washing and cleaning my car saturday I now have a strange noise when I accerlerate, about 1800rpm - 3000rpm... first the sound is like a whining motor noise but can only be heard from inside the cabin, and then theres a louder humming buzzing noise which i think is coming from the pipe circled in the picture (not the pipe on the alternator)

also should there be any hoses attached to these pipes....

this noise has only just started but i\'m pretty sure the louder noise is coming from the pipe which is blowing out the air....

Hi there,

Here are pictures of mine engine bay.

I think those lines you\'re missing are for the air con system, since that pump is the aircon pump...

the aircon pump sits on the right of the engine bay under the pas pump, the one your talking about is the air pump that helps reduce emmision levels.

Ah, i stand corrected then!

Misinformed  :Hammer

Ta, Paul.

edit: although i was fairly certain that the clutch on that pump clicks on when you engage the aircon

It\'s not the aircon compressor, that\'s on the other side, it pumps air down to your cat. The other pipe is the return from the ACV. You could put a mini K&N on your airpump intake as it should really be filtered.

And if those pipes are off it will make a sort of farting noise!

Whats the best way to baffle the blowing out pipe then? Its a really horrible sound... and what about the whining motorey type sound I get, is that the air pump cutting in? And whys it only just started doing it?

Well, the best way is the way Mazda did it - put the pipes back on!  If you dont have them, give Andrew at Jimmy\'s a call or email.

I dont know if this helps you mate:

Looks like it tells you how to plug the pipe nearest the firewall.

Hope it helps,
