Title: UK tyres v\'s Jap spec
Post by: Spartacus on April 24, 2006, 05:41:38 PM
I know that when you import an rx7 that you need to change the tyres to a UK compound but how can you tell when looking at an import if this has been done? Are there any markings etc to look out for?

Cheers.

Import tyres are likely to be a J-make, i.e. Yoko\'s or something.

Also I\'m fairly sure that the J-regulations for tyre depth is less. I drove around in Japan on tyre I thought were very suspect, but my Japanese colleagues reckoned they were fine. To be honest your import tyres are likely to be well worn.

Having said that I\'ve been driving around on J-tyres in the UK for a year and have had no problems. Respect the car and you won\'t have any problems with or without J-tyres on.

Yeah it depends on your driving style!
Japanese S-tires are awsome, but some of the cheaper ones are quite dodgy - I think they have a different compound to most of our tires which don\'t offer the same level of grip on our road surfaces compared to theirs!

If in doubt change them is my advice. It might set you back £400 but at least you\'ve got more chance of keeping yourself and your car in one piece. ;)

I need to replace my rears at least from the Japanese Yokos for the MOT this week, any advise on what to go for? I\'m looking for something sticky, not too woried about longevity.

Dunlop D01J\'s or the D02\'s as I think the D01\'s are no longer made. Many people seem to find these an excellent tire. The other equally good tire to use would be the Toyo R888 which are also a road legal semi slick.

Heard good things about the Toyo\'s most likely my next tyre the Yoko\'s are great but have seen the same level of grip following toyo\'s :D and they are considerably cheaper :yes
