My first gen is in need of a new exhaust system so I\'m throwing some ideas around at the moment as to the best way to go about this. The engine is stock at the moment but I\'m currently pulling parts together for an EFI conversion and when the rebuild is due, a streetport is on the cards :mmmm . I\'ve been given some quotes for full systems (big ££££$$$$) so I\'m trying to save a cent or two by fabricating my own system.
The setup I\'m considering is a disassembled Racing Beat road race header (2" OD mild steel tube) onto a 2-1 Y piece and then back through a silencer and back box of some description. My main dilemna is what size tubing to use after the Y piece. If it\'s a matter of consistency of total cross sectional area then this would require a 2.83" OD pipe from the Y piece back. From what I understand I\'m not going to find any silencers or backboxes compatible with this diameter and must therefore resort to either 2.5" or 3" tubing. I\'m aware backpressure (or lack of) can have a big part to play and am trying to avoid loss of hp from this. Any suggestions???
Lastly, would a setup like this be suitable for a stock engine?
