Is anyone using the HKS F-CON V ?
It\' s a silver (brushed alloy) piggy back computer.
I am not talking about the older black one, nor the F-CON V "Pro" which is currently the biggest competitor for the Power FC in Japan.
I am using one and I have been trying to find out if I have to use the HKS FCD with it or not.
I tried to wire in an FCD but I get bad hesitation if it is hooked up.
Many people tell me yes, you need it but I think they talk about the older F-CON (Black). Others tell that the FCD is integrated in the "V".
We have one car that we know about that has the F-Con fitted. But no-one wants to map it.
Your best bet would be to contact an authorised HKS dealer direct.
Dan
Hi,
I have an FCON but finding it very hard to find someone that knows about it. Do you know anyone who can map it?
I assume you have checked with Abbey?
I know Jap Performance is full of rubbish (my dad bought I, just read it / look at the pictures) but the Sept issue has an R34 which is running an F-Con and according to the article Mark Gillam at Abbey did the mapping. This would imply that they know how the F-Con works, so if you could get Geff or similar along for the rotary side of things it should be possible to get it setup.
yeah i rung them, but its gonna cost be about £600 - £700 to get it done so im gonna sell the fcon and get an apexi with controller.
cheers

Still needs mapping properly though - there\'s no escape and with the cost of the Apexi + Controller + proper mapping it\'ll cost something more like £1300 (sepending on cost of mapping).
I\'m going to go for the Apexi + Commander + boost controller when I get my car sorted out but that\'ll be the 2nd phase due to costs! I\'ll definately get it mapped by someone who knows the rotary and the Apexi.
Iain
yeah im gonna get a 2bd hand apexi and controller for £600, then take it to reworx in portsmouth for them to map, it will be a bit more but id rather go for apexi since a lot of people can map them
Id pay the £600 and keep the FCON. I dont think your going to save any cash going with a Power FC.

really, im not sure what to do, i was thinking apexi cos i can get the controller which would be useful and a lot of people know about them, and then selling the fcon to get some money back, i saw somone selling one for £450
Is the hand controller really of much use though? You would only need it if you wanted to play with it yourself (not a great idea after paying someone to map it) or you want to look at some guages on it.
I just think by the time you buy a Power FC fit and map it (probably over a grand) you may as well have kept what you have got if it does the job.
Just my opinion anyway.
Cheers

if you get a 2nd hand PFC make sure you get the right one for your car.......if you\'ve got an 8 bit and you buy a 16 bit your in for a world of hurt........also wise to double check this before you dive in.
You\'re better off getting the Datalogit, as it opens more options than the hand controller.
Dan
how do i get data logic, isnt that software?
how do i tell if mines 8 bit?
this is getting confusing now, all i want is for my car to run ok with an ecu lol
What year is your car? This will tell what model you need.
Yes the datalogit is software controlled via a laptop. You would need to order it via the Data Logit (http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/) website.
Dan
my car is j reg so im guessing its 8 bit.
so does data logic let me tune the power fc via my laptop?
if so how easy is it to do considering i know fuk all about engines and air fuel ratios and stuff
For a start you need a wide band lambda meter in order to tune your self - another £450-£1000 depending what you go for...
ok wont be doing that then . lol
The commander is very useful for monitoring your car
Classic example :
Water temp - gauge sits in middle......commander tells you 45 degrees..............
gauge sits in middle, commander tells you water temp is 115 degrees.
Even if you don\'t tune with it, it saves on up to 8 gauges!
Regards
Max
yeah that is useful, im think im def gonna go for the apexi, reworx can tune it for £120 and i can sell the fcon. So will work out a lot better i think than spending £600 getting the fcon tuned at least ill have the controller
Was that a deal if buying the ecu and commander from them or some thing? Sounds very cheap.
The advantage of using a PowerFC when you have datalogit is that you can load an already proven map from a similarly spec\'d car as a \'base map\' with which to fairly quickly tune a car on the road. Its not perfect - but thats what many do. Tuning on the dyno isnt perfect either though - and if Abbey arent totally au fait with tuning a 13B then you could be paying them for a bit of R&D. Once dyno tuned you generally have to fettle the car on the road for good drivability too.
You pays your money and takes yours chances as they say.
yeah someones getting some 2nd handones for £600 ecu and controller
