Title: cornering g\'s cause petrol spill?
Post by: vxer on April 22, 2006, 05:38:42 PM
Hi there,

We were driving spiritedly around a roundabout for the first time today when we noticed a strong smell of petrol, we parked up and sniffed all around, under the bonnet, under the car and the only thing i could think of was around the petrol cap there was a stain going down the car. Could it have been that petrol came out and ran down the car because of the cornering?

Cant imagine its supposed to do that...  :Hammer

Cheers, Paul.

Maybe your cap leaks,  did you have a fairly full tank?

It was about half full... I noticed the design of the filler seems to be a plastic flip lid type affair (the thing you stick the petrol pump pipe in), would probably be better with a lockable seal.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Cheers, Paul.

Mine has a screw cap too - completely airtight seal.  You should be able to get a universal fit one to go in no prolblems.

Good plan - might help with the fuel enconomy too! :D

Here is what mine looks like

That flap in the centre pushes down when you put the filler pipe in it, but its not a good seal, methinks...

Looks like a screw-in part.  Get a proper cap for it!
