Title: knocking and rumbling
Post by: Mr J.T on April 18, 2006, 12:32:44 AM
right ive started having a lot more knock laterly on my pfc up to the 50\'s i put this down to too much oil as i have just (saturday) done an oil change.since my knock went up from mid 30\'s to 50\'s,

rang brian who said that the oil would bring the octane level down an so cause knock. once id realised this was overfull i drained some oil the proper level, this has kind of solved the problem but still does go higher on teh knock high 40\'s.

from over filling the oil i did maybe 20miles and now ive just filled the tank up with optimax plus an additive to help stop the knocking. also under hard boost at about 5grand i feel a rumbling thought the engine it just doesnt feel as smooth

this is a monster ported engine  running a T04R turbo.

can anyone please please help as this is concerning me :(

May be down to carbon build up from the oil causing hot spots. Perhaps try adding redex or similar and going for an low boost run on the motorway.

I take it your running a front mount. If so after reading your other post it sounds like it was a major overfill so there\'s every chance the intake system was pretty much oil soaked. If so there\'s every chance that there\'s oil pooled in the bottom of the intercooler and any other low spots it could get trapped. When you\'ve max airflow you could be dragging this oil through the system and into the engine, hence the extra knock etc. Might be worth dropping a couple of cooler pipes of and see if the insides are oil covered.
