Title: help on my new fc
Post by: sim on April 17, 2006, 01:55:37 AM
not long brought a red fc turboll on a (h) it has 110,000 miles on the clock but has service from new to 94,000 and engine sounds sweet but then im new to rotary so dont know wot sounds good or bad but is quiet when running and has a smooth power delievery do you think it will be fine. Plus had it up on a friends ramp which i am lucky to be able to use has and when we have time and found that someone has fu*ked the exhaust up, Well the pipe that comes of the turbo and the cat are both about 3" in diamater then goes from that to a really small peice of pipe about 1.5"/2" (which looks like the same di as the standard pipe that came of my 1.6 corsa) then comes to the splits to the rear cans. I will be taking it out but do you think it will hinder performance with the silly little pipe in place. think im goin for 3" all the way. whould really like a view on the matter

You may find this was done for a reason, When Rotarys have high flowing exhausts they tend to be Loud!!

I think who ever had the car before you may have found this out First hand, they have proberly put the smaller bore pipe on to quieten it down to sell it.

If you are going to fit a big bore Exhaust, My opinion would be keep it 2.5" unless you are looking for serious Power and fit a center box, this will keep it usable and it won\'t attract lots of unwanted Attention if you know what i mean. ;)

I had a think about this this morning, Does the Down pipe have a Cat on? What you may have is a decat down pipe on a std Sytem?

If its a UK car there should be 2 cats, one large on on the Down pipe with lots of tin around and the second as part of the Mid pipe. Its very Commem for this to be replaced with a DeCat pipe.

When you say Presure test? do you mean the engine Compresion test? If so this is always nice to know but it can only be done properly by a Rx7 garage (i think your closest one is Pip at WGT //www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk)

The calipers will free up nicely with a bit of time and some wd40 :)
Watch the rear calipers, they are a bitch and notorious for finally going beyond the point of repair. (Hand brake section)

I had this one my TII - turns out it was a warped rotor on the drivers side.  And the these were pucker mazda discs as well - never again.

Running Black Diamond drilled and grooved now with hawks - much better breaking ....   ;)  :Thumbs-up

When was it last Serviced? You may need Plugs/Leads? Rotays Do like to be services regularly or they will do things like this.

You can\'t realy tell if it needs seals or not by a one off where it won\'t start, Usaly if its going it will be a Pig to start in the Morning when its cold and better when its Hot. I\'d get it serviced with some proper Oil etc and then get it Compression tested For your peace of mind.
