Title: Am I Being Stupid?
Post by: will2j on April 14, 2006, 02:06:23 PM
A m8 is round trying to help start the rex, he has said that I haven\'t screwed the spark plugs in far enough.

I have always on every car tightend plugs to finger tight and half a turn. Is this wrong for the rex?

He says they aren\'t making a seal against the block this is why I am getting the smoke from under the bonnett.

Before I go ahead and wind the plugs right in, am I doing the right thing or will this damage the plugs?

Cheers guys

Will

Tighten to 10-13 lbs not easy to do, but with a few wobbly bits on ur wrench can be done.

Right!  :(

Been out working on the car all afternoon still to no avail  :(

It is definately more than just being flooded, she just will not fire up, there seemed to be no spark at all to start with, then we got spark of the leading but not trailing then the other way round!

To top it all off I have managed to get a new \'noise\' from her, there is a definate buzzing and slight vibration from the coil pack area when the key is in the ignition. It is kind of a low buzzing noise that sounds like its struggling to be produced by something. You can feel the vibration through the manifold and elbow. Does anyone have any idea what this can be?

I am booking her into RE:Worx asap but if anyone has had, or heard of this kind of thing your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Shot in the dark, but have you changed the ht leads, sounds as if it could be a short maybe jumping over to the manifold, which would sound like a buzz, and you probably would feel it, its quite a lot of voltage, you may have a damaged ht lead. just a guess though!

The plugs only need to be tightened enough to compress the washer. The housings are aluminium, and you DONT want to strip the plug hole !!!!
