Sorry another apexi question which has probly been answered before.
Im gonna get one if i cant find anyone to map my hks fcon, its currently 340bhp. If i change to the apexi will i gain anymore power or will it be the same.
will i be able to use my greddy boost controller or will the commander do the same thing.
last one, what can the fc commander control?
Many thanks
Power is down to how the Ecu is tuned, not the Ecu itself Matt :)
FC Commander does the following (off the top of my head) :
Monitor mode : allows you to view injector duty, wastegate duty, water temp, speed, leading timing, trailing timing, knock warning, boost, intake air temp, battery voltage all as a number or in graph form with a peak figure and lots more
Settings mode: allows you to adjust your boost, injector sizes, overlap, lag time, injector map, leading and trailing timing maps and again lots more.
etc : sensor and switch check at a glance, and other stuff!
You can either use your apexi for boost control or your greddy, although the greddy may well be smoother.

Max
Power is dependant on the map on the Power FC; if its running on the base map with boost set stock then you\'ll see less power I\'d have thought. Unless the boost controller \'overrides\' what the ecu says about boost levels?? I\'d have guessed that its the ecu that ultimately controls the W/G duty though?
You\'d need to raise the boost settings and get the map adjusted/checked in order to see the power you had before I should think.
Boost controller will work.
Commander allows you to see up to 8 different settings in real time on screen e.g. water temp, air temp, ld/tr ignition advance, injector duty, battery voltage, boost etc etc. It also allows you to adjust a number of settings such as target boost, idle revs for different loads and so on.
Get Datalogit and a laptop and you can adjust just about any setting you want as well as logging runs, wb output etc etc etc etc

Dang, quick out fo the blocks this morning Maxim :)
cool, thanks for the reply chaps. it sounds like it may be a wise move then. when i get it mapped do i just say that i want higher boost or bhp and they map it to how i want it.
cheers
Quick?
Too much sugar in the coffee this morning me thinks!
Matt: I haven\'t forgotten the oil change thingamajiggy.....What you up to Saturday? Fancy popping down the road to mine about mid AM / lunch time?
Never know, Rich may be about as well, albeit in a Ford ;)

cant make this weekend mate cos my front bumper is getting sprayed, plus im skint, it will have to be when i get paid in a few weekes of thats ok with you mate?
Matt, for what your going to pay for the Apexi and boost kit, get the F-Con properly mapped by Abbey. I dont think the cost will be that different, and you might just find that it could be a good setup.
Dan
Has any one used Abbey on their Rotor before?
I know the last time Phil went there with his they were quite excited by it, but I didnt get the impression they knew that much about them?
They can certainly map engines, thats not in dispute - but how much does experience really count when tuning a Rotor? Does it REALLY matter?
Keep us informed Matt...
yeah i rung them and they said they cant map fcon. im not having much luck in finding anyone who can, ive tried most places. the only place left i have os torque developments
Rich, ok who is the person(s) to map a rotary engine? I know that people have been mapping them, but how many have proper knowledge of mapping the rotary over here? Not many.
Pip would be my best bet at present.
Yes Phil went to Abbey some time ago, and was getting some good figures with their hub dyno. Its a shame that they cant do the F-Con.
I wish I had the budget to have a spare engine, so that I could justify letting somewhere play with mapping it. As the only way to learn in sadly by blowing them up. :(
Dan
PS. I wouldnt trust my scoob on T.D.\'s rollers. ;)
I\'m not going to fight you danny - I\'m not saying some one is better than another, not sure what you use to measure one against another atm?? If Abbey were up for it then I think it would be a great idea to get them blowing up rotaries - its the only way you learn afterall and they have a pretty impressive setup to play around with them on.
Only time will tell who can map Rotaries Danny. When people start producing reliable powerful (and hopefully streetable) cars then we will begin to know I guess...
What do you call "proper knowledge of mapping" exactly btw?
What are you doing with yours? What happened with the bench dyno?
Abbey can do the F Con - they love it and advised me to get one before I crashed the last one.
Id trust them mapping my rotary engine as much as anyone else in the UK. Mark at Abbey has seen a few on his trips to Aus and learnt a fair bit about them. I think he is actually starting to like them :p
Cheers
Lee
Rich, I wouldnt fight with anyone (well except one, but he\'s not on here.;))
I class proper knowledge as those who can map engines on the performance side of things, with them lasting longer than a month or two.
There has been a spate of rotarys going bang over the last couple of months. Most of these are those with single turbos, and running higher boost levels.
But with the rotary scene being so young in the UK, we need to work with a couple of different companies to gain this knowledge.
The other option is to bring in some knowledge from Aussie. Seeing as they have been producing powerful rotarys for years, they are the best bet.
The bench dyno idea is out for the time being, as I dont have the funds for a spare engine, proper ECU and the single turbo kit for it.
Once those funds are there, I will re-open the talks with the people I was dealing with, as they would like to see how well they perform.
Firstly mapping with the stock twins, then with the single. That way the fuel and ignition maps will be open for all to use.

got my power fc +controller this morning, and was wondering is it safe to run on the base map? im having trouble finding someone local-ish to map it at mo so if it is safe would like to run it on the base map for a while.
mods that will be going on aswell are apexi intake, r-magic downpipe, and it aready has a aftermarket cat back exhaust.
Am i right in thinking the base map is set up for these mods + an uprated intercooler.
Should be safe bud, the Power FC base map is very conservative fuel-wise...lots of popping and banging :D
Many of the causes of this summers spate of blow ups have now been identified and cures have been suggested. There are many things I have learnt indirectly and directly from two or three people in the Australian, NZ and US rotary scene that have helped.
Sorry to Hijack thread, so if you want more info I can start another thread or chat off list. New thread may be better so people can all have a butchers (sorry Glenn!).

Come on max, give us the info,
I may have found the problem with the boost kit, how is your solenoid plummed?
Jason
new thread started Jason - called Apexi boost control kit problem.
Go look for it!
