Hi everyone.
Following my fears about the coolant loss from the FD I have put a deposit on, I would really like to get a compression test done to see if the seals are OK. (Presumably a compression test would show whether the seals are up to it or not!?)
Does anyone know where I could get one done around the Loughborough or Nottingham area?
Thanks,
Ian

A mazda garage ought to be able to do one, ring around maybe?
I *think* testing the RX7 is the same as testing the RX8, so they can\'t claim they don\'t understand how...
Ta, Paul.
Yeah, that thought crossed my mind. Turns out I actually need a coolant system pressure check (obvious really, don\'t know why I thought a comp test would do it!), but I\'m sure both could be done by a Mazda garage.
If so, I\'ll open my wallet... :2Rolleyes

Best to get a comp test done as well, just for peace of mind :)
For reference, mazda specifiy 6 6 6, 6 6 6 BAR as the minimum compression across both chambers.
Ta, Paul.
Yeah deffo mate - anything for peace of mind on things like this!
Sadly, from what I\'ve been reading, even the coolant pressure test may not be conclusive (i.e. if there isn\'t an obvious leak, it\'s difficult to say whether it\'s water seals or something else). May have to walk away despite the deposit - better a small loss than a £3k bill!
Unfortunate seeing as the car is cheap anyway, hope the deposit wasnt too big? A coolant pressure test should be able to be done anywhere really, and if you can find the leak then you can use it to bargain with the seller (say the price of an alloy rad fitted etc) Just a thought?

Hmm, hundred quid deposit, would hope to negotiate something as he\'s a nice guy.
If it
does show something obvious, then I\'ll be happier in a way cos it might well be something simple/cheap, in which case I could still go ahead. But I dunno, if it\'s been running like that for a while, the engine may have been overheating etc.? In which case it might not be in too great a state anyway... :(
Might be an upside for you though Dave, if you do choose to sell your car, cos I\'ll still be in the market! ;)
lol yes very true. Hmming and arrring at the minute, I want to sell it cause I could do with the money but I dont want to sell it for obvious reasons....
Well, if you want to explore something and have details/pics of the car, you can always email me! ian[at]heroesofswitzerland.com ;)
Still in two minds on the coolant-leaking car, but my mind is starting to dominate my heart and I think on balance it would be better to err on the side of caution and the whole testing thing may just be more expense without a definite conclusion.
Well, Jamie, very nice chap that he is, has said he\'ll take it to a Mazda garage tomorrow for a coolant system check and compression test to get to the bottom of everything and put my mind at rest. Bless.
If it turns out to be dying, he\'ll refund me the deposit as he wouldn\'t want to sell a dodgy car. Sound geezer, not too many of them about these days!
Very nice of him to offer that :) so either way your going to have the car or your deposit back, win win really :)
Well, better than a Mazda garage, the car is going to WGT next Tuesday morning for comp and coolant tests! :D
All will be revealed (I hope!)...
Like i said to you originally Jamie is a very cool guy so you wont get any bull from him, everytime i have met him he has been sound and very honest, lets hope theres nothing wrong with the car engine wise but just a leak somewhere, fingers crossed for you matey :wave
Yeah, Jamie has been a star, couldn\'t ask for anything more from a seller. :Thumbs-up
Will definitely be buying him a pint whatever the outcome! :cheers
