Hi Guys,
I was about to change the oil in my new rx7 when i discovered that it appears to have a bodykit covering the jacking points!
Can anyone confirm this and what are you supposed to do in case of flat tyre, say?

When you say \'that ridge\', can you describe it in term of the second picture? :)
Cheers, Paul.
Here is the ridge

Oh, the thing with the dents in?
Does the whole car get lifted just by that ridge alone then? I\'d be worried about the jack pushing the body kit and crushing it...
Forgive all the questions, i\'m a bit of a noob! :god
Ta, Paul.
The ridge will bend a bit but with won\'t do any damage to anything else.

i wouldnt jack on that to be honest
get a jack under with a block of wood and jack on the cross member or a chassis leg - i put the jack thru the floor jacking where you did
and changind the oil - just get it up on car ramps - no jacking damage and it lifts it nice and high :D
Just me £0.02p worth

Hi Stu,
I certainly don\'t want that... The thing is, i have a trolly jack but the weird bodykit on the front seems to include a plastic diffuser type thing which covers up a large portion of the front underside of the car, also stops the jack fitting underneath.

I brought some ramps for halfords today but the bloody front bodykit gets in the way. Had a bit of a mare the entire day trying to work it out thb! :Hammer
Ta, Paul.
I wouldnt want to jack it up on the outside of that lip.
With a trolley jack, you should be able to get on the back bush of the front lower arm.
Fish
the standard jack slips each side of the lip and distributes the weight over a roughly 4in by 4 inch area

Could you describe where that is on the picture? ;)

Ta, Paul.
Thats the one. Just try to jack on the knuckle, and not the arm.

Is that the darker bit with the nipple, or the lighter arm thing in front of it?
Ta, Paul.
Right you shouldnt be jacking up the lower wishbone joint if youre planning to work underneath the car as you\'re limited to where you can place your axle stands.
If you have the RX7 scissor jack from the boot and need to work under the car then jack up off the sills relatively near the wheel, if they look none rusty, like in your first pic. You\'ll see it\'s designed to then slide an axle stand under the lower wishbone joint like in your latter pic, the one with the rubber bush, not the darker patch, then lower the jack so the car\'s resting on the axle stand and leave the jack in place for security. It\'s a stretch from there even with the wheel off to remove the sump plug though, so you may have to do the driver side first, axle stand in, undo the sump plug, lower the driver side, then do the passenger side to help the sump drain.
If you only have a trolley jack then could try jacking up the entire car from underneath just behind the sump (but NOT on the sump), then slide the axle stand underneath the passenger AND driver\'s sider, undo the sump plug, jack up again to take the weight off the axle stands, and remove the driver side axle stand and lower the car.
Not forgetting something to catch the oil :)
I\'ve probably over complicated all that, but i have an aeroquip plug and can reach around the sump from under the passenger side once it\'s jacked up and undo it from there which makes it a whole lot easier.
Guess some of this depends on how low your car is.
Happy to stand corrected of course...
edit: now see why the scissor jack may be a problem, doh, didnt look close enough, in your case i\'d use a small block of wood a few inches long, inch thick and a couple inches wide with your trolley jack and jack up just behind the sill, so the block is length ways with the car, just so it doesnt impact on your sideskirts at all and slide the axle stands in under the lower wishbone joint in the latter pic. Can i just point out that with trolley jacks ENSURE the wheel nuts on it are tight before you start jacking, a wheel slipped off mine and the car shifted whilst i was jacking and practically cacked my pants as the wheel was off the car. I dont move all that fast at the best of times but i could have auditioned for a job as a superhero that day i moved so quick.
Thanks for all the advice guys! I ran out of time to do it today, because i was testing the boost pattern in my new car. Seems good at just under 0.75 bar, fast dip and back to a steady 0.75 bar agagin...
Cheers, Paul.
ref : car ramps
most RX7\'s suffer the front spoiler being low down so 2 things i have done in the past
1 - get some DECENT planks of wood - put these on the ramp to make it longer and less of an angle - you get a nice slope doing this and the car goes up much easier - i use 2 short peices of scaffolding plans with support underneath
2 - buy 2 breeze blocks , 2 house bricks and some short planks - stand breeze blocks on the floor , place brick in front , put wood on bricks - drive car onto the breeze blocks - this will lift the car 4 inch - then use a trolley jack
something like this ( runs off to find pic )...
although you would place them under the 2 front wheels :D
From the look of your first 2 pics I have a very similar side skirt. I use a trolley jack and jack at the point where the indents are shown on your second pic and never had a problem. Just remember to put some axle stands under before you start working.
Rich :)
What I do is use the standard jack in the correct jacking point (on the ridge about 25cm back from the front edge) wind it up to the point you can get the trolly jack under..... then jack away with the trolly! once its at the correct hight I wind the standard jack up so it just sits on the jacking point..... just incase the trolly moves or drops away for any bizzar reason!!!
