Do you know what springs you have??? The bilsteins are quite soft a far as shocks go. You could go back to standard shocks with a lowering spring but becuase the Stock shock isn\'t desgined to work with a lowering spring l shorten the life of the shock.....

I have the same setup as you pete, what springs are they mine are RSR, the car is very stiff but hold really well. Its only the bumpy roads you really have problems with the smooth ones are ok. Yours looks alot higher than mine though?

Hi Pete,

Not sure how much you want to spend but although not cheap cheap hit the search button at the top and put in Tein Flex kit and you will find that from the feed back we have had from customers that this fully adjustable kit seems far and away the best suspension kit available for the FD and the RX-8 that is not only very road friendly and comfortable over the bumps n pot holes of our UK roads but also very good on track.

BTW, we also supply fitting and initial set up instructions with each kit.

Had a look real good feedback,as you say not cheap though. For what i need probably too many options i use the RX on odd motorway and lots of side roads, may do the occasional 1/4 mile but not tracking it have you an alternative ?

I\'ve been considering replacing them myself.

If you want to have the ultimate suspension, Ive just fitted some Penske double adjustables.

Should be able to test the set up in a couple of weeks at Combe.

very, very, very nice.  How much did that set you back?

Back to Peter\'s problem...

Peter have you workd out what the problem actually is with the current set-up?  Is it just too hard or does it get bouncy and not feel solid over bumps at speed?  When changing lane at high-speed does the rear feel a bit vague and disconnected?

Mine used to have quite a harsh ride but be really unstable over bumps as the dampers had given up so I had pretty much just springs with little damping.  With decent springs and dampers it\'s now firmer but not as harsh/crashy and feels really tight - lots of feedback from both the front and back!

Not suprising that these things need replacing on our cars though - most are 12-14 years old!

Very interested in this post since I\'ve hurt my back and would like the oppurtunity to have softer suspension when you need it - and stiffen it up for the track. It\'s the \'crashing\' over bumps that seems to the problem.

I have 1yr old adjustable Konis with original type-R springs and would love to try your set up some time Ian and give a report back on the site.

(my complete set up will then be for sale which I am sure would suit the purests)

QuoteKeith   so your konis not that adjustable then for when you want softer ride ?
Pete

I run my Type-R with the Konis at their softest setting and would not expect to turn them up at the back on the road. The Konis therefore start at the stock setting and give further adjustment for track/fast road work, give excellant damping at speed without wollowing and of course the ride height looks just great at their lowest setting.

What I am hoping for from the Tien Flex is an improvement on the springs (and maybe the re bound adjustment) so that the inevitable pot holes on our roads are soaked up better so the ride is less harsh but right there if you want to push on hard, and, with the improvements in suspension over the last ten years I don\'t think thats too much to ask.

For race use, the ride height adjustable system enables you to adjust ride height and 16 levels of damping force.
yes would have been easier but cut & paste advert better  :rollin
being fitted next wednesday in good time for RS3 will post results

Sounds great, I\'m very interested now too. Did you notice any difference however having the solid pillow ball mounts at the top of the new set up?
