Title: Turbo Trouble?
Post by: p_jay78 on April 05, 2006, 07:20:32 PM
I have only just bought my FD3 RX7 - when I got it, the clutch was slipping slightly so I have just had that replaced. So today was the first day I got to drive it without a slipping clutch.

Now! When I drive it, its very quick off the mark, but there appears to be a flat spot from about 4500rpm upward, almost as if something is holding it back. Could this be the second turbo? There is no smoke coming from it, but it is really annoying as I was hoping for a wall of acceleration!

Any ideas what I can do / check?

Cheers

As you\'ve said, sounds like the second turbo isn\'t working. You should get a second  burst of power when the 2nd trbo comes in.

I\'ll rephrase that...

The power should be constant up to the redline with a slight hesitation at around 4500rpm.

I\'m wondering if it\'s the solenoid for the 2nd turbo? friend has similar problem, i think there are some recent threads that could uncover the problem.

I think it might have been carbon build up as it seems better now - if not i\'ll be down to re worx for sure!

Is it safe to use Redex and such?

I find that if I haven\'t used mine for a week or so, it takes a few miles before it goes through transition smoothly. Also, when I got mine, I wasn\'t getting much power above ~4000rpm, it turned out it was because it needed new plugs....

Do you have a boost gauge fitted? If so what boost readings are you getting?
