Hello everyone. Finally got around to joining up after spending a long time checking out the forums. Mad about rotary stuff :god and after years of drooling over rx7\'s I found a nice tidy first gen mkIII last year. Had some minor work done at Rx Motors to get her running smootly. This year I\'m doing a fuel injection conversion, many more plans in store for the engine but I want to keep the rest of the car original wherever possible (might get rid of the TWR front bumper). Anyway, here are some pics, glad to be part of the club.

Nice series 3. I\'d be interested to hear you experience(s) with RX-Motors.

Thanks for the comments. I was very pleased with the condition of the car when I went to see it, apart from the odd paint bubble here and there it is pretty much rust free and has definitely been well looked after and garaged. Has had a front end bump unfortunately though (didnt notice this until i\'d bought the car!) but it has been very well repaired. Shortly after buying the car the radiator popped and sprayed the engine bay a nice brown colour. RX motors were the closest specialist to hand so I left it in the good hands of Tim for a few weeks. Tim fitted a new rad, MkII steering box, new clutch slave and master cylinder, and Koni adjustables at the front. Was very happy with the service and the car is driving very well now. Always enjoy visiting RX motors to see the latest evolution of Tim\'s drag mobile. :3gears-lh

Sounds good how do you find the steering now?

The steering remains very heavy, not helped by having a smaller steering wheel too, but the MkII steering box is a great improvement, Tim dialled out most of the play so I no longer cross lanes inadvertantly on the motorway :eek .
Ideally I\'d like to change the steering to a rack and pinion type as its a shame to be driving a lightweight car that feels more like a train, noticed a very tidy conversion by THE rotary gurus down under in NZ, if interested check out //www.kiwi-re.com, great website.

Whats this? another blue C reg with rubbish steering?
Must be something to do with the colour....or perhaps I\'m just a wimp & should buy a nice Micra with power steering.  Maybe I\'ll try fitting a rack before I throw in the towel.

couldn\'t find the steering rack on their site.  Where is it?  More to the point : how much is it??

I also couldn\'t find a price for the rack conversion. It appears to be a one off conversion, not sure what the rack is from. Looks like a fairly simple job though. There are some more pics in the Fabrication page of the website, also worth taking a look at the Kiwi-Re cars page, but be careful not to drool on the keyboard!
Mark, very interested in your project, will she be up and running for Rotorstock III?

There was me thinking that I could just buy one.  Oh well, seemed too good to be true.  Back to the drawing board....

Someone was asking about RXmotors earlier in this thread.  They did my conversion & I\'m well pleased.   Toatally reliable & goes like really stinky stink.  Tim really knows his stuff & I beleive you can trust him to do the best for your car & not rip you off.  Got my vote anyway. (rubbish tea though). ;)

I can tell a different story. Lets just say I parted with a lot of cash and won\'t be going back again, ever!

hey Dominic, welcome. :D

very nice car! i had an \'83 that was setup just like yours a few years back. same color (excuse me, "colour"), same interior and i had the same suspension, brakes and wheels as yours (our \'84-\'85 GSL-SE). of all the Rx-7s i\'ve owned that was probably the most endeared to me.

as far as stories go, ALWAYS remember that there is ALWAYS three side to every story. :)

Always liked the GSL-SE, the late US spec cars had some very nice subtle features. Seen some interior photos of the late top end models and they look way ahead of their time. Yours must have looked pretty similar to this.

I think the later U.S. ones with the 13B had a dash / centre console / passanger glove box much like the FC RX-7\'s. Looks really good compared to the standard spec dash. Would be nice to buy the interior and convert a U.K. car (LHD could be an issue though!).

Can never make my mind up about this one....spoiler, no spoiler, spoiler, no spoiler. Oh well mines got one and its screwed in so its staying, and they do say the first gen rx7 is a car that really benefits from a decent spoiler at high speed, you see some ludicrous ones on many race prepped 7\'s. Not sure whether the factory ones or my TWR effort offers much aerodynamic improvement though.

I\'ve always liked the way they look without the spoiler ... its such a lot of work to remove it properly and repaint basically half of the car to get it to look good and match up + the rubber spoilers tend to weather pretty badly.

Some third gens look pretty nice without a rear spoiler too

the cars looking nice and tidy ... whats the plan with thee fuel injection ?

Agreed it is a lot of work to remove the spoiler. I spoke to a company called chips away recently to ask if they\'d be able to touch up the holes and any blemishes left after removing the spoiler without repainting the entire panel. They seemed to indicate it would be possible but need to see the car first to get an idea. Usually they only fit dents and chips. Will give an update on this when they\'ve seen the car.

The plan for the fuel injection goes something like this:

EFI Hardware 50mm IDA throttle bodies
Microtech LT8 box of tricks
Turbo II 550cc primary and secondary injectors
Turbo II coils
200bhp fuel pump
IDA inlet manifold

Just trying to scrape together the cash now. I\'d like to have it ready for Rotorstock but that\'s creeping up pretty fast now.
