my 1st gen has been in the garage unused for seven years,I have decided its time has come.needs some minor welding first but the its MOT time.
Question,am I going to have trouble with the emmision test ?
Will any 22 year old car pass ? I know that a new back box is needed as its got a large hole in it ,can I get a new Janspeed box ?
any comments or suggestions will be well recieved
cheers
pete
A 22 year old car will not have an emissions test: it will just be visible exhaust (i.e. As long as the exhaust does not have too much visible gasses, then it will pass that aspect)
I recently had mine MOT\'ed and the inspector insisted that it required the normal emmision test. I argued the point but they insisted, anyway it passed regardless but they put your reg in the computer and go off that.
Exhausts!! cost a fortune, usally have to be specially made. mine cost me over £200 just for the back box. Who knows maybe i got ripped off but this was from WGT in cheshire.
Well, i just had my J-reg FD mot\'d on saturday, and the emissions probe didn\'t go anywhere near it!
Thats the point, some testing stations appear ignorant of the requirements so be aware of this.
I was worried about emissions on my FD last mot as, on startup and for a couple of minutes after, it chucks out clouds of oil, steam, petrol (who knows exactly what?), but it sailed through the emissions tests (it wasn\'t even close to the limits). I was told that the tests are looking primarily at how efficiently the petrol is being burnt rather than picking up on burning oil etc.
Anyway, wish you the best with yours. :burnout
thanks for the comments guys, its as I thought ,a grey area.Have to source the back box and get a bit of welding done first .
