Title: FMIC for an FC
Post by: grinder on March 30, 2006, 01:10:25 PM
might have found a bargain with a FMIC for my FC

is it tooooooooooo big though ??

"Very large intercooler (3" inlet & outlet - huge capacity & heavy duty for high boost pressure - about 600x600x75mm)"

would this fit in the front of the FC - or would i need something smaller ??

any help is appreciated

is it from ss autochrome store, it will fit by the way with the help of a grinder and a couple of self made brackets.
theres loads of room on the fc in front of the rad, ive cut most of the nose out on  mine, buts mines not a road car.

nah its not an SS Autochrome one - its a modine????

it just sounded big thats all

i thought the oil cooler sat behind the rad ?

how much work is it for a FMIC ? - do you need serious modifications to things ??

do you need to move the battery for the pipe work ?

if you have any pics of yours fitted it would love to see it :D

still not sure what gains i would get - its more of a safety thing to be honest - and it sounded cheap

a few mods do need to be done (or so I have been told by Matt at RX motors - I still haven\'t seen my car so no idea what it looks like!)

here is what Matt has done:
relocated battery
relocated the resistors and electrical gubbins that hangs from the front rail, removed one of the front rails (non structural), built custom hardpipes. Think that was it (ask Matt whether it was a lot of work!)

thanks for that mark :D

i have the stuff to move the battery already

i have removed all the air box and are running the induction kit ( like you are )

hummm moving elec stuff - always good fun i suppose

im not sure if to move ahead with this or not - yeah its cheap but is it worth it in the long run ??

come clean, i found you this bargin and no less i\'ll be helping to fit it :p

I never had to touch my electronics when i did my fmic, but thats an fd. It may take a while. The hard pipes are the hardest things to make on a budget, the rest is more fiddlily

If you have a standard inlet,  there is no point getting an I/C with 3" inlet and outlet as the stock FC has only got a 2" inlet into the throttle body.
The hardest part is getting the pipes from the throttle body to the front of the car as you have to squeeze them past the power steering pump.

If you are going to go huge turbo etc in the future then go for it, but if you are keeping the the stock turbo, then go for something a little smaller or just add water inj and keep the stock i/c

Makes sense Ant :D :D

i will be keeping the stock turbo to be honest :D

i think its toooooooooo big to be honest - i would have prefered something same width - just half height

the hunt continues then :D
