got myself a 9" ford diff coming of a drag car, only prob is the shafts have been shortened for a frame drag car.
anybody know where i can get standard length tubes, driveshaft and flanges for it.
theres millions of these in the states, just thought one of you guys may have an idea on where to get them in the uk.
ps. prepare for some monster launches :Giggle
Hey how wide is the diff at the moment? If you are parting with the housing and axles there might be someone on here interested. (maybe me?)
Go grab a copy of the latest Custom cars (hot rodding mag type thing) and you should find what you need from one of th evendors there.
Cant wait for this project!!! Finally a man who knows to go fast he needs a strong driveline. I like the way you think.
cheers, michael.
I am working with someone that shortens them for me and works on top fuelers, jet cars etc.
Will ask him in the morning
this diff is of my mates drag car, i think its 36" flange to flange and will take as much power and torque u can throw at it.
Its been running with 24" wide drag slicks on the drag car with small block chevy running around 450hp, launching is just insane with this set up.
only problem is what box to use, im hoping my engine will make over 600 rwhp so the s5 box is going to get minced, its getting used this season until it dies anyway.
I think we need to make a new sub frame with 2 swinging arms and suspension mounts to get the best from the dif.
im hoping to get the engine finished and mapped before rotorstock but god knows how it will run with custom plenum ,runners and 8 injectors on t45, q45 throt body on a full bridge. :2Confused
I worked out i could run 100% methonol on 8 -1750cc injectors, although i would need a huge fuel pump and lines to do so, im definatly up for trying it later on this year if the motor lasts! this would only be a dyno test and no run on the strip by the way.
the dif was impoprted from the states and shortened by geof housings down south somewhere.
I want the shafts and flanges to make it std length again
Dont you need different injectors to run methanol? Or am I thinking of a mechanical injection set up?
cheers, michael.
speak to Hauser they do strange shafts
im not sure to be honest bob, i was talking to a guy running 100% meth on a blown chevy at the last meeting at shakespear, he told me general rule of thumb is 3 times the amount of meth in relation to fuel. I was looking at his motor and he had a 1" hard pipe fuel feed line with a huge belt driven pump with what looked to me, like normal injectors on 2 rails.
I cant see what difference it would make using mechanical driven inectors like a diesel pump and injecctor setup to using 2 rail -8 injector setup.
another important thing is compresion ratio, ive been told meth motors need to be running high compresion, but im not to sure about the compresion needed with high boost rotary engines.
If its not as straight forward as i thought, ie- a bigger pump, bigger piping and injectors then i wont do it due to finance reasons!
the other thing the guy told me was change your oil after every run as the methonol works its way into your motor oil, this is on a yank engine though.
To be honest bob ive asked tuners over here about running 100% meth on a rotary and its unchartered teratory, no ones done it in the uk.
We have meth if you need it in stock. Yes it uses a lot more. They do prefer high compression.
Injectors are the same, I can check but pretty sure.
Lots of Meths cars are running Royal Purple, Ive mentioned it before, its film strenght is such that with other oils they throw it away, with royal Purple drain it in to a container, let it settle and it will separate, remove then re-use.
My supplier of bsoch fuel rails and injectors supplys some of the Lemans cars, there injectors are £1k each and the pumps are £2.5k. They do also modify the Bosch 044 pumps which I can enquire about if you wish, or ask advise about running a couple of stock 044\'s together. Our fuel rails have also been made with a large diameter bore through the centre of the rail, so as to act as a small reservoir of fuel and help with flow, the ends are with stock 8mm connections but can be changed with 10/12/14mm if you are prepared to change the fuel lines as well, no point having a rail with 14mm connections and 8mm feeding it.
No one has done it as yet, but Im sure once one has the others will want to follow, at least it burns a lot cooler so wont need water injection or charge coolers, if just for the strip you may not need a intercooler of Meth.
Ive made my own rails gary - out of 3/4" box section ali, if need be i could make bigger rails using 1" box.
the pumps that ive seen are of serious flow output ie 650ltr per min plus, these are available in the states and in aus for around 600 dollars.
the piping would be hard piped from pump to the rales for peace of mind using tube
if compresion needs to be higher and petrol type injectors cant be used than forget the hole idea!
650 ltr per hour, i put 650 ltr per minute iun a last post!
I thought that compression wasnt a huge factor with forced induction. Just wind up the boost.( says he who has nothing to lose and is not a trained engine builder or tuner eek).
Cheers, michael.
im up for trying it at the end of this season ,its a nice experiment for our tubular frame funnycar for next year. :burnout
the engine stands me a jack sh*t so far so whats to loose!
im thinking of investing in the aus pts 3mm unbreakable seals if the motor pops this year with the atkins.
apparently under any detonation, they will not break, but will bend therefore no damage to housings turbo etc.
Then its rip motor out straighten the seal and reuse, thats the theory for a cheap season, or so im lead to beleive!
