Title: Signs of a Water seal problem?
Post by: Grizzly on October 10, 2003, 06:58:46 PM
Can anyone Enlighten me to the Symptoms of the loss of a water seal?

I know some one that is having problems with his Coolant system, what is happening is it wont bleed up properly and blows water passed the Rad cap.

To me this sounds like ether it is a bad cap and maybe a water leak (even thought i cant find any water loss apart from the Overflow) or Water seals?

Has anyone had a Water seal let loose that can help with Symptoms.

Thanks

Chris

Thanks for the reply Dan but the problem i\'m seeing here is a lot more subtle than discribed on that thread.

I guess the car here is not left long enough with low water to get the full overheating effect, But it is giving all the signs of a dead water seal.

If anyone has had it happen to them or has found another fault that causes these symptoms i\'d love to here it.

At the end of the day the Build is not the hard part, its the diagnosis that takes the Experiance, unfortunatly i\'ve never had a water seal go on me so i live and Learn.

Have you tried changing the rad caps? Also which model is it?

The cap on the air seperator tank somtimes is not up to the job,so try changing that first,it is a slim hope but if the engine is pushing out a lot of coolent under high pressure then maybe a housing(Side)has broken in the water seal area.
Kind regards

Chris,

look at signs of oil in coolant.  If there is oil in coolant  your O-Ring has gone.

About your post on another thread:
With O-Ring failure, the car can still start fine.  The housing is often brocken on "hot arc". The water that enter the combustion chamber is puted to exhaust so the car starts fine.

The car its on is a Turbo 2 (1990)

It is sounding more and more like the Side seal/Plate, I can make it run very well but there is too much presure for the Cap to handle.

I have tried a cap of one of my Turbo 2\'s but with no joy.

So it looks like i have a few weekends work lined up.

Cheers for the Help

Chris
