Title: Dilemma?
Post by: will2j on March 29, 2006, 12:02:12 PM
After finally getting my AVC-r to control the boost properly I took my rex out for a \'power run\' as it where. All was fine until after a nice long dual carriage way blast and she went all \'lumpy\'. Kind of like she was only fireing on 3 cylinders if she had them! The boost dial also started vibrating when the turbo\'s where under load. I slowed right down and it got worse the slower I went, I managed to limp to a Halfrauds where I had a look under the bonnet, but couldn\'t see any boost pipes off. I had a chat with the guys at Halfrauds and they seemed to think it was a duff plug, which I felt was a fairly good diagnosis.
As i was about to limp home to look at changing the plugs the car died on me, and never came back to life. She stinks of petrol so I am assuming I have flooded her? Would this be because of the duff plug not igniting the fuel in the chamber?
I got her towed home trying to bump her on the way but to no avail. I am changing the plugs tonight, so hopefully she will fire up. If she doesn\'t what is the best way apart from towing her the will clear the flooding?

Cheers

Will

best way to do it is to remove the inlet elblow. then remove both the (i think Top) plugs. then go to the  relay board at the front of your engine and remove the fuel pump relay. this will stop fuel being pumped in. then crank ur engine for about 10-20secs it should make a chuff chuff noice (sound of compression) leave it a while and repeat a few times. then reconnect the relay and plugs(best to clean and check em first) then crank her properly. should start first time. ive done this like many other ppl such a releif when it fires

You can press the throttle fully open to cut the pump out on the fd when firing up, give it a few runs to clear any fuel and try to start it up again.

well either your pipe to the boost sensor has come off which will cause those symptoms.

What boost did you run on the AVCR on your power run, was it over 0.8 Kg2?

The \'power run\' produced 1 bar which is what the car is mapped for and what the AVC-r has been set up to hold the boost at. I have checked the pipes around the map / boost sensor and everything in between the two and they are all in check. Both Turbo\'s still spol up quickly and she was still pulling hard under acceleration until she cut out  :Hammer

I am actually going to do the plugs from underneath the car as I have use of a workshop with a hydraulic ramp, saves taking her apart to do the job.

Thankyou for all the help guys I shall report back later when I have done the job hopefully it\'ll all be  :burnout from then  :D

Might as well do the service while I think of it, kill several birds with 1 stone as it were. :Thumbsup!

I\'ll be hoping for the cheaper option then ;)
