Title: Brake Fluid?
Post by: kermit on March 29, 2006, 10:08:36 AM
I\'m fitting new discs and pads all round with braided brake lines.  If I bleed the system how much should I allow to refill?

Also any recommendations on which fluid to use (Type and Brand).  I\'m not doing trackdays etc so DOT 5.1 is probably overkill.  I guess DOT 4 is the right stuff to use? :3Confused

Cheers,

Martin.

I think somewhere between 1 and 1.5 litres should be enough. I seem to remember that the minimum spec is DOT3! Not all DOT4s are the same, personally I go for Castrol super response as its easy to get hold of, reasonably priced, and one of teh higher temperature DOT4s with good wet boiling point as well as dry. Avoid the DOT5 silicone based stuff!

If your bleeding the whole system why not go for Dot 5.1 ?
Can only help to improve the whole braking system.

Ate Super Blue is one of the best DOT 4 fluids you can get.

I changed over to it last year when I renewed the flexible lines.

Cheers guys,

Think I will give Clive a call, his DOT 5.1 seems great value for money.

Normally I buy extra and waste 1/2 litre to flush through with the new fluid
its not exactly expensive its the best cheap mod you can do.
