Title: Ultralite WP-766 17"
Post by: alexb on March 28, 2006, 10:09:38 PM
Ok guys,

I think I\'ve found the alloys to get, just need clarification as to whether they will fit ok as japshop just said the available offsets were on their site

17 x 8 ET35 front

17 x 9 ET27 rear

If anyone can tell me if these would be ok that\'d be great, I\'ve been trawling the forum for ages but can\'t get a definitive answer esp. for 17" wheels...

Cheers,
Alex

the front shd be fine with 35 offset but 27 on the rear cld be a prob and its a expensive mistake to risk i think it will stick out too much

Will do mate, just need to do some photoshop work to see how gunmetal will look on my montego blue car. Japshop don\'t think they\'ll be able to get hold of bronze which is a shame :(

Cheers,
Alex

Feel free to put up the photoshops, mine\'s is montego blue and I\'m considering gunmetal as a respray on my Works, I\'d like to see what it would look like :)

Well I bit the bullet and ordered them, arrived this morning. Been dealing with Guy at SPD Auto (nice bloke) and he convinced me when he told me he\'d just got some 766\'s in that were gloss with a polished rim :). And... I\'d be the first in the UK with them :D

Here\'s a couple of cameraphone pics, don\'t want to move the car at the mo as it needs the correct size spigot rings (SPD sending them tomorrow) so these will have to do for now.

Just need to sort out the comedy standard ride height and I\'ll be happy ;)

Cheers,
Alex

Cheers fella :)

They\'re Toyo R888\'s, going to wear out pretty quickly I reckon but I hardly use the car nowadays so should be ok for a while ;)

Cheers mate  ;)

Yeah, for sure need to lower it a little, I\'ll put up a new post asking people\'s opinions but I\'m leaning towards Tein Super Streets - would be convenient to get them from Nemesis as I could get them fitted and have geometry setup etc done at the same time (at least I think they do laser alignment) but I\'ve seen that suspension for £500 + VAT elsewhere so I guess it\'ll be DIY time again :)

Well, I\'ve put about 800 miles under the wheels over Easter weekend and uncovered a little problem with the rear wheels...

I don\'t know if it\'s due to the r888\'s having a pretty square shape but the rear tyre \'shoulder\' rubs on the rear arch :( - see pic. It\'s the top 6" or so of the inside edge.

Cue rx7veilside saying "told you so" ;)

Mr J. T what tyres and profile are you running? Did you get your arches rolled at all?

Anyway, a bodyshop are looking at the car tomorrow afternoon and can roll the arches or pull them out some if needed, although I hope that\'s not needed as I\'d not bet on 14 year old paint not cracking under that kind of treatment...

Cheers,
Alex

different wheels will have same offset but may have fitted but as a rule if its ever in doubt wait..rolling of the arch shldnt be a prob but it may need to be completly rolled so go to someone very good..as a last resort u could look at machining the wheel hub by a few mm to give a greater offset
bit of a funny angle so hard to tell but even with arch rolling u may still have a prob..did u go for 255 or 265 as this is the reason i went for 255 as well

Good point mate.

Yeah I\'ll see what they say. The bodyshop have received some good reviews from people I know so I\'ll tell them to take their time and do a good job :)

Yeah my other thought was to get an engineering place to machine a bit off the  wheel mounting face, I\'ll see what the bodyshop say tonight.

The angle exaggerates the problem a bit so hopefully just the rolling will be necessary.

The tyres are 255 but compared to \'normal\' road tyres the profile is very square so I think that compounded the problem.

Cheers,
Alex

Had this with Do1J\'s and slightly wrong offset - smoked them up coming on to the M25 :-/ We had to stop in cLackett Lane (on way to Ring) and attack the rear arches with a hammer - was fine after that, even hard driving around the Ring :P

Well, finally the isues are solved :)

Due to other things like a holiday and travelling for work it took a few weeks to do but the bodyshop rolled the rear arches (thanks Chris @ H Tech Styling) and after I fitted my Tein Super Street suspension the other week I found the front passenger side tyre was catching the bolts that attach the arch liner to the wing so replaced bolts with zip ties and job\'s a good-un - finally!

So here\'s a pic as it stands now. Next mods are 96-on rear lights and 99-spec front splitter :)

edit: 1 more pic :)

Cheers,
Alex
