Gave my car a \'good drive\' today whilst having a play with a big bike :burnout
Anyway, my oil temp on my Defi gauge read 113 at one point. Is this on the high side? It normally sits around the 90 mark.
it depends on oil you use.
if you use mineral oil, you should not exeed 120 deg °C
using synthetic will depend on the oils thermal resistance. Most oils should not exeed 150°C.
at the points above, the oils will loose they "oil function" resulting in heavy wear to bearings etc.

I was gonna ask about this as I\'ve recently fitted my Defi oil temp gauge.
Its fitted on the passenger side, so from the angle of the drivers seat at first I didnt think it was working, but then realised it was moving but only reaching about 58 degrees on the open road. In traffic it will rise to about 85 and as soon as you start moving again will drop to about 60 or less very quickly - so I guess even if this is reading low, it shows that the standard oil coolers are doing their job :Thumbs-up
Running normal mineral oil by the way.....
