Hi,
I haven\'t used my Rex for about 3 weeks, go to start it and _probably_ the battery has discharged. I will verify tonight using a voltmeter but I was wondering if other people have experienced a discharged battery after only a few weeks of inactivity? I expect periods of inactivity in the future so what would be the best way to avoid a discharged battery?
Its the time of year where they start to fail, lights ,on cranking up
cold, accessories on, etc.
A few things you CAN do ,
Check the Alt. belt is tight and not sliping,
AndCheck connectors are tight on back.
Batery terms clean off and make shiny inc. the term. clamps
coat with Vasoline after cleaning to prevent corosion
Check fluid level and top up if req.(distiled water)
Put in some \'Bat\' aid tabs ( about £3)
After all this buy your self a charger conditioner and leave on
through winter with bat diss. (£40)Theese desulphate the bat also, which is good.
If your bat. is still no good take it down to a motor factor
and they will do a \'drop\' test where they put on a shunt on
which will prob. destroy whats left of your bat and youll have to get anew one.
OR JUST BUY A NEW ANYWAY IF ITS +5YEARS:rollin :rollin :rollin
Paul..
Thanks for all the advice. Just finished removing the now completely dead battery, will get a replacement tomorrow. Having a go at charging it for sh1ts and giggles, not expecting good results though :p
Not turned up much on the battery charger / conditioner, apart from one that the
TVR Car Club offer :) Looks ideal, I\'ll be investing in that then.
Thanks.
Well, a spanking new battery has solved the problem. :) Aaah it\'s good to be back behind the wheel.
I\'ll have to see how the battery charger / conditioner works out.
Cheerz.
