Title: How much for a 3rd gen engine rebuild?
Post by: Spartacus on March 23, 2006, 10:13:13 AM
Hi as a new member without a car as yet  :( I’m looking at all the options as to how to get hold of one including buying a car with a dead engine. Often in here the figure of £2500 to £3000 is mentioned for a rebuild, but when I see cars advertised they say “rebuilt engine at a cost of £4000 to £4500”. If I got a car in need of an engine rebuild I’d hate to have a shock   and blow my entire budget for other mods to get the engine rebuilt. Soooooooo can anyone explain why there’s a difference in price and anyone like to list exactly what they have paid and what they got for it?

Cheers Spart

until you open the engine you cant tell how much damage there is inside.
It may or may not need new housings or rotors.
Prices will start from £1500 approx and go up.
If you ask for tuning work and porting that will also reflect in the price.

your best bet is to look at £3k on average and you wont be too far out, but you cant say for sure til you have blown it and know what needs replacing.

some rebuilders always use new housings some dont also, as been said it all depends on what is found inside
