Hi Chris,
Welcome to the best club on the net,
i don\'t think the oil/water or sludge is any bad thing on a rotary, iv\'e seen this mentioned on here by several guys i have it too,on rebuild 10k ago, so no worrys i\'m sure,
i use Castrol gtx 10-40w in engine filter at same time every 2500 miles.
not done my diff/gearbox yet,
defo only blue or Green antifreeze, not pink,
beeping, mine beeps also.when i put the key in with the door open,
hope this helps, someone else will help shortly.
Bob
Quote1. best engine oil to use and how often?QuoteMost people use a basic mineral based oil ie castrol GTX every 3000miles oil and filter
2. best oil for gearbox and rear diffQuoteDown to personal choice if your going to use on the track or strip then you may want to think about a synthetic oil
3. best coolant to use and what colourQuoteEthyline glycol based usually blue or green
4 things common to go wrong and should look out forQuoteVac pipes are a problem and the check vales on the they get brittle due to the heat. Plastic ast split. best option is post if you get a prob
5. i have a beeping noise everytime i turn the ignition onQuoteNot sure as i don\'t run a seven

If your getting a lot of white smoke on start up then poss waterseals.
Some of the seven owners will nodoubt come back with lots more.

Howdy Chris, dont panic mate.
Best engine and gearbox oil, if you use the search thing that will give you all the answers, different people recommend different oils, most use mineral and swear by it others semi/fully synthetic.
For coolant anything that says Aluminium on the tub will be alright.
And dont worry about the mayonaise on the oil cap it seems to be the norm with rotaries, well it always does it on mine, and that has just had a rebuild. :yes
Cheers Andy
Oooooooooops 2 replies in the time it took me to write that.......... Must type faster, lol. :Thumbs-up
ok guys thanks for that i thought i might have a head gasket fault so thats put me at rest
when i done coolant change i used red toyota red coolant as i work for them!
also thr beeping happens when i shut the door too !! but not realy a prob as it goes pf after 5 beeps
the other thing is the last owner did some wire cutting and interior light only comes on when the radio is on so i removed radio and found many connector cut
is there anywhere i can get a wire diagram
regards
chris

I always thought you should avoid the Aluminiums and Red based coolants for rotaries?
not sure m8 but will change over the weekend to green just to be on the safe side
:2Confused
QuoteI always thought you should avoid the Aluminiums and Red based coolants for rotaries
Well im not 100 percent sure, but i was told by an engine builder that the block is majority Aluminium, so it was the stuff to use, as for the colour I think that it is green that i have seen in most Fd\'s
Hi ya and welcome to the club mate.
That beeping sound i get in my Fd too and it\'s the seat belt warning i think, just as long as it\'s not a long drawn beep. As that would mean water level is below min. I personaly use Castrol GTX and have done for 2yrs and had no prob (touch wood) but it\'s all down to personal choice, also i use blue mix for my coolant. hope ta see ya up rotorstock!!
Stu
Chris,
The beeping is normal i believe. It does it on mine and stops when the seat belt light goes out. I would only use what Kev recommended "Ethyline glycol based usually blue or green" i have done so on all of mine and never had a problem. Oil i have always used is castrol GTX 10- 40w .
i had a rebuilt engine in my last one and used to find a little bit of sludge same as you. Think it might have something to do with the cold weather, as it never happened in summer. not a problem im quite sure.

Crap biscuits, I didn\'t know you were supposed to use a specific coolant, I just used the stuff I had for my old car which is pink.
Tell me this won\'t break my car please?
Trouble with the pink stuff is as it breaks down with age it becomes acidic which isn\'t too good for your engine.
Kevin
My Coolant Is Blue, Dont Know What Make.
The Beep Is Standard In Most Jap Cars, I Used To Have A Sunny Zx And It Was In That. It Lets You Know The Key Is In The Barrel. I Think Mine Beeps When I First Unlock The Door And Get In.
Is This An Immobilser, Do Fd\'s Have These As Standard?
well m8 figured out that the beeping is the seat belt warning when seat belt light goes out so does the beeeping
as for immobiliser don\'t think thy come standard on fd\'s but my depend on the age of the car
