Title: How Much should an Extenal Wastegate Open?
Post by: antnicuk on March 21, 2006, 08:53:17 PM
I changed the pipe going to my wastegate to a bigger one and it made no difference,  i am still having massive boost creep.

I have examined the wastegate and plumbed it into a compressor ( with a bleed valve) and the piston only goes up about 1/2 an inch and could still go up another half inch but doesnt no matter how much air i stick in it.  When i put 30 psi in to it most of it bleeds off down the shaft and it only holds 9 psi with the piston only half way up.

I can push the piston up with my hands so i know it goes up all the way just not by air pressure.

Any ideas or does anyone have an HKS 50 mm wastegate knocking around that i could try to see if it makes any difference.

I\'m getting very frustrated now :Hammer  :Hammer  :Hammer

I\'ve got a HKS racing wastegate you can try (which I assume is a 50mm iirc) the only problem is the spring is a 1.3bar one. You\'re welcome to give it a go with your spring if you like? Have you checked the diaphragm on your wastegate?

Hi,

i have checked the diaphram and it seems fine.

That would be great,  where abouts are you in kent, i could collect to make life easier , i should only need it for a few days,  if it works and you are looking to sell it i may be interested.
Is it an original HKS one?  Mine is an SS autochrome copy.

regards
Tony

It\'s a genuine HKS wg I\'ll be using until my car\'s ready (soon hopefully), so won\'t be selling. If you can transfer your spring, or use mine if you run over 1.3bar ;)

Pm and we\'ll sort something out.

HI Mate

Have had the wastegate apart and checked both the spring and the diaphram..even the most minute hole in the diaphram could affect it...it seems to be a common thing on the greddy wastegates...our supra had a serious boost problem turned out to be a split diaphram...

If ya still having probs...i have a hks 50mm w.g i bought for the supra...i can send that down for you to try if required...

Cheers

Gord
