Title: is there a throttle position sensor on an FD?? (AVCR related)
Post by: richard cash on March 21, 2006, 12:46:11 PM
On my avcr there is no reading for throttle position so im wondering if there is a sensor at all on the FD. I didnt wire the apexi so im not sure of th ewiring diagram and it looks like th eapexi site doesnt hafe wiring diagrams for any of the products they sell now. It seems strange that there wouldnt be one but im sure the guy that did wire it up would have done it when he did the rest of the wires.

also, the rev metre on it is displaying half the revs the PFC and stock dials registers. Idling it shows around 450revs and its the same when i rev th ecar higher too. Why would this be. I looked at the settings and its set to 4 cyl and an arrow pointing up and to the right. Is this correct.

Ive not had the car mapped yet as im still running it in and so obvliously the apexi isnt set up yet but im confused by these things

hope someone can help

after looking again at the avcr ive just realised that it reads 100% throttle all the time. Either idling or whilst driving. What does this mean??

It hasnt been wired up/set up correctly.

Yes there is a TPS switch on the bulkhead side of the throttle body,has a plug with 4 wires going into it.Look just below the coolant feed on throttle body.

Try 6 cylinder on the set up for revs,that should work,if not what other cylinder settings does it list.Its not 4 cylinder thats for sure!!!!!

Hi ya mate, i\'m running the AVCR too. Sounds like the set up of the unit itself it incorrect, not the wiring. Have a look around this site, it was a big help when i put mine in. Here\'s how mine reads in the Car Select:
Cyl=4
Spd=4
Thr=Arrow pointing up

http://robrobinette.com/boost_avc_r_install.htm

Good site for other things too. E-Mail me if ya want to know more stuart_wilson1@yahoo.co.uk

cheers for the responses guys, apart from Oedipus Rex :P.

I have looked at the wiring and it seems that the gray wire for the AVCR (throttle position wire) is wired in but all i can tell is thats it about in the middle of the connector (about 3 cables either side of it) and its wired to a green/black one. Is this the correct cable. I just cant see anymore clearly than that.

its definatly set to 4cyl, 4spd, arrow up and right, i will see if i can get a straight up arrow later and see if it makes any difference. I will also check the sensor figures in the etc menu too.

If its not the AVCR and the actual sensor then what effects would that have on the car running. Ive only had the car for 500miles and all of those are runing in miles so i dont know if the car should run like this or not. Im assuming that the rebuilder wouldnt let it go from the workshop running rough but i dont know. If he hasnt road tested it then i guess he may not have known about a dodgy sensor

ive looked closer and have got the following:

cyl 4
speed 4
arrow up

i also checked the sensors and its reading over 4volts for the throttle so i guess thats why its at 100. So that would assume either there is a short in the circuit or its simply wired upto the wrong cable. Does anyone know the colour of the throttle wire on the loom?

Black/green is the correct wire. You can check the TPS voltages via the PFC.

Various sources of info are:

Checking TPS voltages HERE (http://www.spipowerexcel.com/pdfs/fc_commander_fd3s.pdf)  (page 38)

Adjusting TPS HERE (http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/tps_adj.htm)

AVCR wiring and instructions HERE (http://www.apexi-usa.com/support_main.asp)

checked the wiring and it looks ok. Checked on the PFC and it has 2 throttle voltages both of which are over 4V. From this im guessing that it can only be either the wiring to the sensor or the sensor itself.
