Guys update to my my boost problem saga.
Right things I\'ve done already
1. Checked Solenoids
2. Primary Air Intake to primary turbo hose
3. Y Coupling
4. Bypass, charge releif valves
5. DeCat pipe, original cat checked, In mint condition no blockage
Boost pattern when Car is cold (just warmed up) Morning 8-4-8
When warm/afternoon 5-2-5
Evening 2-1-2!!!!
We are going to check wastegate control actuator and arm (one near the front of the engine) tonight to see if its a weak spring and to see if the heat is making it stick,(as it seems the wastegate door is not shutting properly when hot.
Apart from that has anyone got any ideas of what else it could be??
Checked the Wastergete Actuator with a pressure line and its working fine the rod opening and snapping shut, arghhh any ideas guys?
Sounds like the dreaded \'rats nest\' - you are loosing boost due to an air leak would suggest it is a leak on a vacume hose?
hmmm if it was an air leak from a vacuum hose, my boost pattern would be constant irespective of heat , but boost pressure changes when heat rises. Plus I disconnected the boost solenoids yesterday to take the question on vacuum hoses out of the equation so it would run a 7psi boost pressure, but this had no effect on boost, I even disonnected the vacumm line(dangerous dont try this at home) to the wastegate actuator which has the effect of closing the wastegate door permanently shut this evening and the most boost I got was 5psi when hot!!
So guys any ideas??? do you reckon the big Turbo Control actuator is at fault?
blitzboy,
thats i real pain dude ! you still runing up the pod tho right ??
is there a way to disconnect the safetyboost?
maybe the vacuum lines a collapsing because of the heat ?
I am prob. completely wrong but that my contribution !
;)
Shaq
yep your wrong he he, when you disconnect the solenoids, you are relying on the spring pressure in the actuators, in this case 7psi which is safety boost , so in this case im getting even less then this, which points to either a faulty actuator holding the wastegate open, but this has been checked, hmmm I only can think that the main turbo control actuator is sticking open with heat. But that is the hardest actuator to get to to test without taking loads of bits off!!yikes.
Has anyone on this forum had a problem with the main turbo control actuator before?
Getting the whole twin turbo pack changed over today, so that will fix bugger! lol;)
cool, i hope that sorts it mate, let me know how it goes.
Shaq
Update!! we have found the problem, when my Mechanic started to take the parts of to replace the twinturbo pack, he noticed the bottom intercooler hose which joins an elbow then the hose to the turbos, he saw the rubber coupling connecting the elbow had a split on the bottom where the jubilee clip is, therefore when the rubber coupling gets hot it splits open leaking large amounts boost, right off to order the rubber coupling tomorrow, anyone wanna buy a twin turbo pack I now longer require lol!!!
Ps attached pic, can anyone tell me the part number PLEASE???:god
You could invest in samco hoses [ ask your mechanic if he has some] or oder it from demon twits:cool
hmmm that is an option, but I have hard pipes on order from America which are taken an age to arrive, so for the time being I might as well order the part to get me going,
So does anyone on here know the part number?
Don\'t mean it to come across rude but would of thought that if a rx7 had boost issues one of the first places for a mechanic to look would be there ? Can\'t you take the turbo pack back to Mazda as it\'s unused and get your money back ?
Well the rip was hidden underneath the Jubilee clip, so to be fair it was very hard to spot until he started to take it apart, he didnt charge me hardly anything at that point. Well the turbo pack is second hand which I bought quite cheap, so I will either keep it for spares or sell it whole.
Part number anyone for rubber coupling?
I here you,
I don\'t know the part number but this is a bit of a common boost problem so I would advise just replacing it with a piece of samco instead.
rgds
hee hee its harder getting Samco then mazda parts!, I tried this lunch time apparently Samco has to be ordered and in takes 2 weeks to come in! So I fixed the coupling for the time being until the hard pipes come in and its now making full boost at 10 psi whoohoo!!!
I\'ve just ordered some 65mm & 70mm silicon hoses from Chris at RE:Worx, tel 02392 831213. They were quite good value at £25, I needed a bit more than you require, so I\'m sure the bit you need would be quite cheap.
I\'m sure if you tell him what bit you need he can cut a bit the correct size and post it to you. I think that hose is 70mm, but check it!
Andrew
Cheers Andrew I must just do that
I thought I might update u guys on this, I fixed the problem permantly with the greddy hard pipe intercooler kit and has been running sweet until last week, then i started dropping boost again :( I thought cant be, so I took all the pipes off and the plastic pipe that comes off the twinturbo outlet, found the original rubber coupling had a dirty great split in it where by the jubilee clip had rubbed up against causing the split. I repaired it , sweet the car runs perfect, it spools up even quicker then when i bought it, getting full booost 10 psi at only 2000 rpm, f**k me im having a hard time keeping the car on the road in this weather coz its so quick
Here is a diagram of where i found the 2nd boost leak
Blitzboy,
yo yo! how you doin ?
now my car is playing up, it boosts up fine on the first turbo then drops to 0.4 on the second ? i checked all the vaccum hoses took of the plenum ended up breaking the Double throttle control solenoid ! :reallymad
i have got some vaccum hoses i was gonna replace alot of the rats nest with.
all the intercooler piping seems ok ?
Any suggestions ?
Shaq
Well the only way you can check the second boost leak i had was to take the piping and the coupling off to visually inspect it.
0.4 bar is only 5.8 psi which is less then safety boost, safety boost is 7psi anything less inducates a boost leak my man, if you are around next Saturday come over and i will check it for ya
ok cool thanks i will be changing the rats nest tommoro night i hope i dont break anything ! this time
You going to the gym tonight? i should be there about 7:30 ish
Shaq
yep i will down there about 6.30
Good luck with the rats nest u need it lol
LOL !
Sounds like you don’t have any confidence in me ! oh well neither would I ! LOL !!! :rollin
see you at the gym!
