Post by: M@r]{ on March 17, 2006, 10:05:20 AM
Having just received my new alloys I\'m wondering if any of you guys have tips on keeping the polished lip part looking good for longer?

Ive seen various Allo Wheel Wax?  Any good?  I seem to remember someone suggesting Vaseline!!   :Hammer

They first set of alloys i bought were some Antera\'s on my Mr2 :o  had them on a week and noticed that they started rusting in places on the shiny chrome part :3Confused I couldnt believe it, took each wheel off and polished them with Mhyrr or is it Myhrr anyway its a metal/car polish in a blue bottle and it took the rust off and never came back, saw the car again, at the last show of the season, and the wheels still looked bob on!!!!! :yes After 2 years.

When your cleaning your wheels don\'t use anything at all but hat soapy water. The Alloy wheel cleaner is a very harsh substance. They will last longer if you don\'t use anything aggressive on it. In about 18months time it will cost you about 40 quid a wheel to have the rim recut and relaquered. Just keep them away from salt and you shouls be fine !

I used the wax with one of the old style solid waxes. It also helps the dirt and crap wash off as well.

I agree with Shaun, wash daily if needed in hot soapy water. The brake dust is almost as bad for your wheels as salt!! Washing regulary will stop build up of any corrosive elements. I use MER polish for protection and shine.
