Title: How Hard........
Post by: Rayseng on October 08, 2003, 07:09:49 AM
...............is it to change a clutch, I\'ve got a 92 Type R.  I\'ve changed a clutch in a Ford Probe I had a few years back but the thought of doing this on my RX7 is stopping me from getting a good nights sleep.

Q\'s:

Can it be done without taking the engine out ?

Are there any tips on what to remove and what not to remove ?

Would I be better of with a work shop manual and is there one available ?

I\'m new to all this rotary stuff and usually have pistons that just go up and down so apologies if I ask any stupid questions.

Hi Ray,

First of all welcome.

To make this job as easy as poss you really could do with a hoist or pit .

Apart from removing the power plant frame
( long iron channel that connects the gearbox to the diff )
and undoing the pressure plate to release it from the flywheel

( pressure and centre plate comes down with the g/box)

the rest is conventional and shouldn\'t pose any probs

Hope this helps.

p.s. never worry about asking questions here no matter how small because one of the main reasons we  formed was to help Rotary owners.

All the best Clive

Thanks for that I think I\'ll have a go at it.

No doubt there will be lot\'s more questions on my car once I have it on the road asd there are loads of electronic gadgets attached to the steering column and stuck on top of the dash which I ain\'t got a clue what they are for.

It also has HKS shockers and it was so low that I had to lift the back of the car with one hand while shuffling the jack under with my foot.  The exhaust is so loud on it that when I started it up my mate was standing at the back and nearly shat himself.

If anyone has an old space saver wheel they don\'t want it would have a good home in the back of my car!
