Title: Hi Octane Fuel ?
Post by: Fr1day on March 15, 2006, 06:35:21 PM
I\'ve had my REX 2 weeks now and..... well most of you own or have owned one so know how god dammed happy I am right now  :)

My question is:

Will running a 92 FD on normal unleaded cause any problems mechanicaly to the car or will I just lose some performance.

As John hinted it depends on mods, ecu, is it a UK or import car, amount of boost etc if you put a list together with the mods thats done sure we can help.

Until you know what mods you have and ecu run it on optimax or similar, as its not worth the risk of detonation until sorted. Even when I have a tunable ecu I still ran Optimax.

As far as I know it is a stock ECU and it is a Jap import. So far I\'ve filled it up twice with normal unleaded. The engine was rebuilt 2 years ago and it has an new exhaust system and dump valve.

No matter what mods there are, if it\'s the standard ECU and a Jap import, it\'s designed to run 100RON fuel. We don\'t have that, and normal unleaded is only 95. You should run it on the highest octane rated fuel you can find (Super = 97, Optimax = 98). Using an octance booster won\'t hurt either.

If you continue to run on 95, you run the risk of detonation, which will cause an apex seal to be spat out the exhaust, and you be at least £2.5k in the pocket lighter.

Until you have it checked over by a rotary expert run it on 97-98-or-99 ron unleaded fuel. The reason being that in Japan the ecu is set to run on 100 ron fuel. Therefore you may be running lean = det = rebuild. The most important mod you need to get done is having an Apexi + PFC commander ecu fitted. Then your FD can be mapped properly and your a/f ( air/fuel ) set up in the safe zone for our low ron fuel. Give Pip a ring at WGT ( banner above ) next to RE:WORX he would be my next choice of tuner in this country. HTH. :)

Thanks for the info chaps ! I\'ll be calling WGT this afternoon. I can see this is going to turn into an obsession for me now, I\'m wanting to learn all about my REX and how it works. Don\'t think my girlfriend is going to be too happy though!
