Post by: chrisJDM on March 15, 2006, 04:25:24 PM
My car is currently down at RX Motors and they have fitted a Apexi Power FC and on saturday im going down there and a guy is going to map the power fc, i spoke to him on the phone earlier and he warned me because of the mileage (65000) that there is a chance it could go bang  :eek im starting to get a bit worried now

He is merely making you aware of what could happen. At WGT you have to sign a form to say that you have everything as sorted as possible - basically, if it goes pop, it aint pips fault.

Its a standard statement really. Understandable, any car on any dyno will want you to sign a disclaimer. If its relitively stock you can just ask them to run to around 6.5k. After that the power starts to fall off so there isn\'t a point in nailing it to the red line.

Its a case of making sure you have good oil, water, gearbox and diff oil & plugs. Basically have it prepped for the run, you will get much better results. Its only as bad as what you do on the road, in most cases its more controlled and monitored.

Enjoy the experience, the noise (which is awesome when the car is standing still) and the heat coming off from behind the car.

Shaun

Biggest worry you have is if you are mapping this on the road.
A - most mapping is done in 3rd & 4th gear pulls from 3k to 7k therefore you will be way above the 70mph limit and on public roads you will have to be cearfull.
B - unless your tuner has a lamda senser or you have one fitted it will be very hard to detect if you are running lean.

Please understand I am not trying to put you off and if your tuner is confident - go for it, I take it you have put all the safety mods in place and checked you have good compressionect.

greg who is doing your mapping mapped my single turbo fd, did a great job on it, he will always map your car on the safe side unless you ask otherwise and takes his time to iron out any little niggles it may have no matter how small they are. i have to say that  my car runs really well now thanks to greg. id recommend him to anyone wanting mapping done on there fd.

i really wouldnt worry about it.... :cool

Greg is just covering himself really.

Just to put your mind at rest,  He is a sh1t hot mapper, had my PFC mapped twice by him now and wouldn\'t use anyone else. He\'s been tuning these for years, I believe he was one of the first people in the UK with a PFC (when it cost £1k +  :eek ), and he uses a wideband lambda.

My car made 363bhp on his map at just 0.8 bar (FMIC, downpipe, induction, full decat, street-port by RX-Motors)

Click for the graph (http://www.drexel.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/RX7Dyno.jpg)

As you can see, a lovely smooth power curve.

You won\'t be dissapointed ;)

i know, ive heard he is very good and rx motors always use him and recommend him, and he has called me to explain, i have had the car compression tested and all came out around 6.8-6.9 so not to bad, ive had the car about a year and have neva had i running properly, first the turbos wernt boosting properly which was then fixed then when that was fixed found out the manifold was badly cracked and so losing power that way now thats fixed and got downpipe and decat done and now power fc, so after spendin loads of money on it and not really drivin it that much over a year hopefully after this weekend i will have it working properly.

I think we are gona map it on the road, as he said i could drive if i wanted but he has all the proper equipment for doing the job.

I can vouch that Greg is the man. If I din\'t map my own car he is one of the very few I would have map mine without any reservations.
That said it\'s not the engine you want to be worried about it\'s your whole car, them guy\'s drive like nutters down. Especially that Tim. lol :3gears-rh

Another little nugget of information :Thumbs-up  Someone else to map yer car to go along side the \'known\' suspects.

Just be aware this mappin work should be done on \'private\' roads :D

S2K is cool , slow and handles worse than the RX but apart from that its going well, nice to be able to put a tenners worth of fuel in and for it to last a few days  :p

Only got a few minor things planned for the S2K part prices are so much higher than the RX , a cold air feed is like £700+ so only looking at cosmetic parts like front lip and some 17s/18s

Glad to see your up and running right , get over to the drag night and whoop some ass on the 22nd  ;)
