Title: Laserline car alarm : Problems starting car
Post by: chrisBoid on October 07, 2003, 08:17:32 PM
I have a Laserline car alarm / immobiliser 996V3.

I haven\'t touched my Rex for a couple of weeks until this evening where I cannot start it as everytime I turn the ignition the alarm goes off.  The alarm diagnostics after this happens indicate that an attempt to hot-wire the car has occurred.  Hmm.

Short of phoning the installer tomorrow, has anyone had any similar problems?

Could be the battery is a little low on charge. I know that some batterys when low, go mental.

Could the battery get low so quickly, after only 2-3 weeks unused?

That may cause a problem as it might go unused for this amount of time more than once :(

Any tips on the best way to charge the battery, bearing in mind towing is almost out of the question due to tricky access?

Older batterys loose their charge quicker than you would think.

Take it in to something like an MOT station and get them to check the battery. Dont take it to somewhere that sells batterys as they will just tell you its knackered and try and sell you one.

If the battery is low, would all the dash lights, stereo, indicator lights and headlights still all work fine?  (I guess the alarm has it\'s own battery supply anyway).

Is it an easy job to remove the battery or better still to test the charge left on it?

They would light up fine, but when trying to start the engine they dim to almost out.

The lights stay bright and clear when trying to start, more come on actually, as the alarm is triggered (indicator lights on dash and the actual lights).

I\'m trying to get in contact with the alarm fitters (Motormall) to see if they can offer any advice.
