Title: Is this combination safe for the engine?
Post by: probedb on March 15, 2006, 01:11:50 PM
Hey all,

I\'ve heard about the 3 mods rule thing for FDs but just wondering if it\'s safe to have the following installed.

HKS air filters, HKS downpipe, Racing Beat catback, with main cat still in place?

I have an unfitted Power FC but was hoping not to have to fit it and tune just yet.

Basically trying to sort the car so it\'s running as reliably as possible.

Ta :)

Paul.

you should be ok, bear in mind that the mods are all adding toward better air flow, so you may get some boost creep.  keep an eye on the boost guage, if you dnt have on....BUY ONE NOW.

You could fit the power fc - it\'s designed to run rich anyway, so you\'d be safer overall running the new ecu than the existing one.

what Nikp says. Just fit the power fc anyhow yourself, it runs richer than the stock ecu on its base map so will keep you safer. Its only a fifteen minute job and you need no technical nouse at all.

I\'ll see about doing that then :) I was reading on rx7club about having to cut 4 wires from the ECU?

nope, I think thats just on the yank cars. You literally just unplug the old ecu and plug in the apexi. Simple as that.

If you look in the passenger footwell, there\'s a plastic card on the interior of the fender. You need to remove the RX7 sill on the bottom of the door to get it out.

The ECU is in a cradle thats attached to the exterior of the motor so you\'ll need a screwdriver.

Follow the instructions in the manual to set up the Apexi once its plugged in. Expect a very high idle at first.

I would have said that, but the website, for me, is being frustratingly slow. And the pages not loading up half the time! grrr.
