Looks like my Bathurst will be lacking a front strut brace so given a)they look cool & i\'m a tart as well as
b)stiffens up front end/turn in?
So which strut braces can you buy &/or recommend & where can you get them from?
Also is it usual not to have them on the Bathurst? (\'96 BTW)
Si
I still have my stock one if you like?
Let me know if interested.
Regards
Max
I also have just swapped my stock Mazda unit for a nice blingy one.
Didn’t make that much difference, except in appearance.
Dan
Max i may take u up on that, was more of a general inquiry at the minute thou as i wont be getting my mits on the car till January time :(
So Dan where u get yer posh brace from ? :D lol
Is there any limitations on which strut braces fit which models or as long as RX7 FD good to go?
Cheers
Si (getting ahead of himself but hey gota pass the days sumhow......;))
Si, I got it from Co-ord Motor Sport.
After waiting god knows how long, even chasing via e-mails, telephone calls and even visits the other supplier still didn’t supply. So I went to Cusco\'s main site and found the official importer of their goods. And got it from above, 3 weeks after I ordered it and when they said it would arrive.
Cost a little more than others, but it came in on time.
Dan

I have a Cusco brace as do lots of others (obviously!). Not sure how much they actually do, but I\'ll be using every kind of bracing I can get my mits on *when* the 20B is in :)
I know RE:Worx have a shiney ally and blue anodised one and a carbon one (both Cusco) on the wall - or did last weekend if you fancy buying yourself an early xams present :D
R.
I forgot to say that I already have the Cusco rear brace with the triangle floor mout kit.
That tightened up the rear of the car one hell of a lot. I remember driving home after having it fitted and an M3 wanted to play through some twistys. The car felt so planted I kept going when he backed off. ;) I wont say what speeds were involved as I like my ability to drive.
Dan
that was my next question as to rears but i was waiting for archbish to show his face ;) lol.
Seriously thou having a quick gander, again, at the model guide in the other section cant see anything mentioned in relation to strut braces on the \'96 Bathurst in particular as mine is "4th Revision Type R Bathurst model" can anyone shed any light on this  does this mean it\'s a basic stripped out un stylee as in no front & possibly rear strut brace? (obviously no front un in pix ;))
Si
Very hard to say what model should have what as there are so many different damn variants. Think the RB Bath. was one of the cheaper models, so may not have come with front brace; think all bats have rear brace though, dont they??????
Not a big deal, 2nd hand stock ones seem to go for any thing between £50-100 I think, shiney ones £150-£250?? Only reason a brace wont fit any FD is if the engine bay has non stock bits which get in the way - otherwise one fits all :)
R.
No. Depends on the bathurst model.
For a while I think Everything had Bathurst attatched to it. Including the Auto touring X.
Specs are so hard to tell.
Even for an enthusiast.
On some of the type S models you can option them up so much they look like RZ. add aftermarket into the equation and you dont have a clue.
Mine is a Type R.(i think) No radio, No Bose, No Cigarette Lighter, No Sunroof, No Leather, No Rear Hatch cover, No Rear Seats version.
But it does have the good bits. Healthy engine, Twin Oil coolers, Front and Rear tower braces.
Its not a Bathurst But Im thinking about the stickers.
As for strut braces. RE Amemiya has one that are triangle shaped and connect with the firewall. = Good
AUTO EXE one is best.
See next pic
PS... You have the HKS Powerflow intake version. (not standard)
New Strut brace by Autoexe
cool looks like mine is type R Bathurst or RB, is that the same thing
Anyway hmmm get yer braces out then i wana see how they all look er i mean which performs best ;)
Si
Russ (Rextreme) good to see you on the forum, M8....:wave
Russ is one of the most recent people to travel in my rex!
...Has a pretty cool example too - In Tokyo!
(New gearbox being fitted tommorow to mine).
:cool
good stuff! where to get Autoexe in the UK?
Miguel - don\'t forget pics of your underside while it\'s up in the air if you get time ;)
Dont mean to hijak the thread but.
Miguel,
Thanks for the blast the other week. Pitty we couldnt take it to Daikoku.
But you had fun anyway.
My FD is Stock except for Exhaust, I hope to build something similar, but starting with visual.
Here\'s a piccy of the shiny alloy/blue one that Rich mentioned - I think this is the same as the one that reworx have hanging on the wall:
http://www.fduk.org/Meets/Blectchingly190103/Images/21.jpg
Kevin
Cheers Kev, yep thats it; the brace-bit is a shiny squished/ ovalised tube.
They also have the carbon variety as well I think - as per Max\'s engine bay:
BTW fish wots the web addy for cuscos main site then?
Hmm they looks pucker :D maximtaylor how much were you thinking of for yer stock one outa interest? ;)
Si
Think Max has sold his stocker?
If he has Geff has a \'2nd user\' Cusco one same as the one in kev\'s link above on the wall too in the workshop - going for about £120 I think...couple of marks on it but will look nice and shiny when the workshop grime is removed I\'m sure :D
Cusco\'s site is //www.cusco.co.jp I bought mine through Option Motorsport but it took forever to arrive.
Kevin
Have I sold it Rich????
I thought Geff still had it! I\'ll have to have a looksie.....
Regards
Max
Usual story:
R. is that max\'s strut brace on the wall?
G. dont think so, think he sold it - better hold onto it maybe?!
R. yeah.
:)
Dont worry mate - its safe!
anyone got any pix, links etc to the different types of strut brace cusco do, couldn\'t work out the jap site & couldn\'t find any pix or owt for that matter on option motorsport etc :(
Si
Takakaira have lots of Cusco strut bars:
http://tinyurl.com/qezf
Kevin
God damn it now i\'m spoilt for choice:reallymad lmao seriously cheers for that :D
Si
Dan have you got a picture of yer rear strur brace as mine currently has CD changer in the boot which i presume will need shifting for such a bad boy but it\'d be nice to see what it looks like as pikky on takakaira is clearly of a different motor :( Is it the "3 point rear OS strut" i presume?
Ta
Si (trying to make mind up...)
Si, I will take a picture tomorrow and post it.
I have the 40 PHi top bar (big round unit, same size as John Helps carbon unit) and the OS floor mounts.
If you have the storage bins at the back, instead of the so called seats, it meets the floor pan at the centre nut.
Dan
any joy with pikkies of what the rear cusco un looks like in the ole FD (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-016.gif)
Si (trying to make mind up for the last time.........)
& another stupid question how does the rear triangle bit screw into the floor or does it even?
Si (AKA confused again (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-014.gif) lol)
There are about 10 different styles here.
4 point
3 point
add on 3 point
add on 4 point
traditonal 2 point ones and stock versions red or black

Si, there is a metal plate that goes under the floor pan that you bolt to. Two small holes have to be drilled.
If I remember tonight I will take some pictures.
Dan
cheers boss............(http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/ups/hyper-x/sidelook_smilie.gif)
Si
Si, sorry for the delay.
This is the 40Phi rear. (could use the carbon unit if pref.)
Dan
Does the parcel shelf still fit with something like that?
There is no connection for it, so I just push it up to the brace.
I still like to hide stuff in the so-called boot. :rollin
Dan
(http://mysmilies.creativesell.net/otn/love/luxlove.gif)now that is kewl!!(http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/ruinkai/coolgleamA.gif)
[retard mode on thou (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/dork.gif)] is the bottom 2 bits of the triangle which go to the central bit all you get when you order the triangle & then it just matches up with whatever strut brace you have going from 1 side to the other or erm other just not sure how the whole rear strut brace & rear triangle come together (http://smilies.crowd9.com/contrib/corky/smilies3.gif)
Si
The triangle bars are seperate from the main brace. I would imagine that they would bolt to any of the Cusco braces.
Dan
On this subject, does anyone know where i can get my hands on the black covers for the rear struts top mountings?
The guy how put the strut brace in my one obviously went a little crazy on saving weight and left them out!! I\'m not to fussed but it would be nice to get some to finish it off rather than having the mounting bolts on show....
:)
so the nice shiny horizontal bar is that actually part of the triangle brace or is that the seperate cusco un if so which one is it? Proper blingy thou (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/ups/aganar/sunglasses.gif)
Si
PS cheers for pikkies :god
OK the top brace is the 40 Phi brace, this is also in carbon.
The triangle bits are the two bars going to the floorpan.
Each part is sold on its own.
Dan
40 phi is that a cusco brace then if so which is it, or is it not among options on http://www.takakaira.co.jp/performance/cusco/cusco.asp?index=strutbar (http://www.takakaira.co.jp/performance/cusco/cusco.asp?index=strutbar) as none decribed as phi i presume it\'s that funny little symbol which i can\'t find anywhere on keyboard (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/lynx/pinkwink.gif) as there\'s a carbon version of that it seems? Hmm hadnt considered that un i was more looking at OS uns but that does look proper bo i tell thee (http://www.davidtuck.mcmail.com/CraigHEADSlowres.JPG) lol
Si (temptation init)
Si, why all the need for silly faces and smiles in every post? Cant work it out.
Cusco Braces (http://www.cusco.co.jp/english/e_strut.html)
I have the 5th picture down as my front brace, and the 4th brace just straight at the rear.
At the bottom of the page is triangle floor brace, which itelf is the flat oval shaft.
Dan
cheers boss that\'s just wot the doctor ordered (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/verkleidung/costumed-smiley-050.gif)
as for all the smilies well they\'re addictive i reckon the government should tax them instead of fags or even better petrol (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/groucho.gif) lol
Si
looks like i\'ll need to move interchanger at least (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/blackeye/hihi.gif) but out of interest with regards the plastic strut mounting bits is there a little square or something that easily pops out as looking at the attached pikky it looks like it\'s a kinda allround jobby at the minute (http://mindscraps.com/s/contrib/corky/smilies8.gif)
Si
Heres my front one - Cusco again!
I seem to have a stock rear one - no pics though - as it has a plastic cover.
PS - this is an old pic, the engine is a bit cleaner now!
Si - I take it thats your car :D thinks maybe you will need a gear knob - or perhaps a three dimensional smilie would suit.
Has the car landed and when do you get your hands on it ?
I was just going to point out the gearknob too :D
Strange that it hasnt got one though, I recon its been stolen somewhere down the line (unless you were told it never had a gearknob)
Lee
John ask & yee shall receive (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-095.gif) lol
Yes that is my car pikkies taken in Japan & car is here & work in progress, failed emissions on MOT on Monday so being sorted to get it thru SVA by the end of week in theory.................then just needs registering & it\'s party time (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/rocker.gif)
Back on track well kinda the knob was removed to stop ot being borrowed on a long term basis by sum nasty type so all good & as per pikky
Si
Si
Think it\'s time to rename you "Smilie-Si"
Back to the quesion you posted, the lumps sticking out of the sides of the towers should br removable.
Take a closer look at my pictures.
Dan
cheers i presumed those big plastic things wood be modifiyable at worst (http://smilies.crowd9.com/contrib/lynx/redwink.gif)
So to continue the stupid question theme(http://smilies.crowd9.com/contrib/corky/smilies25.gif) did you say you had or had to remove the back of the seating & if so was/is this & the carpet remove brace related or just weight saving....?
Si (nearly there....lol)
I dont have those stupid seats, as they are pointless in an FD. :D:p
The picture below has the areas that will need attention. As for the boot liner, I just need to cut a little slot in mine.
Dan
Thank you kindly :god
Si
PS if you ever want seats i\'ll happily swap (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/ups/smarty/wink.gif)
