Title: Sequentials??
Post by: Jono FD3 on March 14, 2006, 10:49:41 PM
Having some problems with the transition between the turbos...... Some time the second turbo comes in and ather times the boost drops off as if the second isn\'t coming in!!!

Any ideas???

Most likely a limp solenoid I would imagine. Especially if you do get the boost sometimes.

I just meant that one of the solenoids used to control the boost may be a bit \'dodgy\'.

So does that mean "get the trusty tapping stick out"???
& beet it to within an inch of death!!!!!
Or would a clean up & some WD40 do the job????

Could be the turbo pre-control door staying shut for some reason. That\'s all i can think of - turbo pre-control is the door that directs exhaust to the second turbo. If that stays shut, the second turbo will never come on line. So you could check that solenoid.

Wouldn\'t have thought it the charge control staying open, cos i\'d have though you\'d lose a lot more presure than that. Also, you\'d probably hear a whoosing noise.

Can also be the Turbo Control. Turbo Control "sends" exhaust gas to the Primary Turbo below 4.5K and to the Primary and Secondary above 4.5k.

It has an actuator( like a diagphram ), that "gets" pressure on one side and vacuum on the other, to make it move. So it has 2 solenoids that control this.

Do a google search for FD3S vacuum hose diagram or similar, and you will find a coloured diagram of the system.
 Actually, here it is....

And then here is some good stuff to read while you\'re on the jon...

I\'ve got some spare solenoids if you find you have a duff one

That\'s the other thing........ How do you check them?
I haven\'t got a manual for the car, and I don\'t realy know my ass from my elbow with the way the sequential solonoids work!!!

Nick, your offer may come in useful....... Keep em handy!!
