because i am using custom inlet manifold and runners I have to block water feed outlets on my rotor hosings and also do away with the 2 oil injectors that feed into the lower runners.
could i just leave the other 2 oil injectors that feed into the rotor housings plumbed up and just block the other 2 outlets from omp that arnt going to be used or should I just ditch the whole oil injection completely and go pre mix?
has anyone used premix befor on a rotary?
do you just use 2 stroke oil 50-1?
is it correct that fds only use 2 oil injectors compared to the fcs 4?
quite a few people are running pre-mix the exact ratio seems to be open to debate though
is it just 2 stroke oil they used mixed with fuel?
it would make life a lot easier for me to ditch the system completely.
Im only using the car for drag runs so I could make a small braided hose fitted to a t, with 2 pipes coming of the t fed into the 2 jets in rotor housings . the end of the pipe would have a 1/8bsp stop end that could be took out to manually pump oil in between runs in the pits to make sure all apex seals, corner seals etc are lubed up.
sorry for all these mad ideas, I used to be a machine tool fitter and have plumbed many lubrication sytems up on machines using 1 shot oil lube systems for slideways ,bearings, ball screws etc.
just thoght it would be an easier way of making sure the apex seals are properly lubed up aswell as using premix.
crazy ideas are good ... being stuck with the same old stuff is boring :D
I guess it would work, I\'m not sure it would be needed as well as the premix though. Some people have modified the oil metering pump to draw oil from a seperate reservoir so they can run without the hassle of premixing but still have the benafits of being able to run an oil for its lubrication properties rather than because it burns clearly.
I\'m pretty sure the premix is basically the same stuff as used in two strokes. (Castrol R is another but I think it has draw backs with residues ... but it does smell like a proper car!!!)
if fd engines only use 2 oil injectors in the rotor housings then i could just do away with the other 2 injectors that are in the std inlet manifold and use 2 stroke as well for safe measure.
the crowd at rotorstock will smell me coming from the stands ! :Thumbsup!
its going to stink like 30 sthil saws at full chat running side by side!!!
just go premix Stuart. 100:1 normal road use and 80:1 when giving it some on the track or strip.
Kevin
is that just 2 stroke oil then kev?
Yep the 100:1 ratio is easy i just put 50litres in at a time and add 1/2litre of synthetic 2stroke oil at the same time.
Kevin
have you no omp and oil injectors at all then kev?
No need for such high ratios! 128:1 is appropiate for extended hard use. For road use can be thinned down abit. I personally use 150:1 which equates to 200mls to 30 liters. For drag runs i will use no premix in the fuel. This is to limit the chance of detonation, as premix limits the fuel\'s ability to resist det.
BTW Stu, I admire what you are doing. See you at RS.
John
Pumps removed and blanked as are the injectors Stuart. As for the ratio\'s i\'m not having any probs at the ratio\'s i\'m using so will stick at 100:1. Plenty of info on Ausrotary on this one but you\'ll need some time to sift through it all as there\'s a lot of it.
Kevin
ok so here goes my plan:-
dump omp and use premix to run engine in when its built that is.
put 2 oil feeds in the rotor housings conected to a T with a 1/8 bsp stop end on the end of the feed pipe fastened to the bulkhead for easy access.
When i turn up for mapping or racing ditch the fuel in the tank and pour in racing fuel with no premix.
use a one shot 12v pump with normal engine oil in, to squirt into the housings, through the 18bsp fitting, then put the end stop back and fire up.
theres no way that an engine will burn all the oil in rotor tip grooves for 1 drag run.
my fd uses oil very very slowly so they cant need that much
A one shot is a small oil reservoir thats normally used on machines to lube up all moving parts. It fires so many times an hour through all machines oil ways to keep lubricated.
however when i used to build machines, we had a portable 12v one shot so that we could lube up ball screws and slideways when building beds and checking for alignment. the pump has a small button to press for 1 shot of lube and also has an adjustable pressure valve on it to set how much oil to squirt.
any ausys used this method then!!!!!!!!!!
this car will never see a road in its life again by the way, apart from on the back of a trailer!
I use 250ml of mineral premix to 20litres of fuel..............thats on N\\A btw.... :Typing
Dont get to tech bud,a ROTOR is quite happy with mix and fill method....nothing can go wrong then. :bandit
Agree with Era there Stewart if you stick it in the tank on fill up its idiot proof. Why complicate the job.
Kevin
I was thinking of what john said about det with premix, no premix in with fuel means no oil in grooves doesnt it?
I guess im just paranoid of no oil in the grooves.
when i took the engine apart the grooves where smeared in oil big time. ie a good film of oil on each side of tips.
its not complicated to do, its a 10min job with nylon pipe and a couple of fittings,
all im doing is ensuring there is engine oil in the grooves before giving it rice. just like the std system does.
It makes the build a lot easier for me :Thumbs-up
the pump is mobile its not attached to the car mate,
just screw fitting in and press button once and away u go.
my mind is at rest :Thumbsup!
As others have said, I\'d just run the premix, many do including me, no problems with det. The ratio of oil so so small in relation to petrol!
Quote from: stuart wizyI was thinking of what john said about det with premix, !
What ratio\'s are you running Max?
About 100:1, easy to do the mental arithmetic on a cold petrol forecourt ;)
I premix as above...... you have to remember that your method for pumping the oil into the rotor housing has to have more pressure than is in the combustion chamber otherwise it will just blow it back..... and also leak compression. Dont forget an RX7 oil pressure is 2 bar on idle minumum.
the oil injectors are in the intake side of the housing, no combustion pressure there.
the pump will be used with the engine turned of, just one shot.
I dont want to overcomplicate things here boys but these one shot systems will lube milling and grinding machines with 3 slideways up to 6 metres long with over 50 oil lube outlets. (every moving part on the machine)
the pressure output will pump a lot lot more than 2 bar as well constantly or intermitantly.
the brass jet has a very small od for the oil jet so only a small amount will run through it if i turn the pressure down on the pump.
i will test it with a dud rotor housing and see how much oil comes through at various pressure until i get a little dribble running down the inside of the housing.
mike i see what u meen about air jetted in the oil jets to fire it through but im only putting a dribble through.
the pump is no bigger than a car battery with oil reservoir built in.
anyone who works on any type of cnc machine will know what im on about because they have to be filled up every week
