Title: towing
Post by: 907 on March 09, 2006, 08:36:33 PM
can you tow the fd.  The two eyes under the front look to be to high up and im sure i read somewhere that they are only to be used to strap the car down to a tow truck.
If you cant, can you get an aftermarket tow hitch.

Sorry if thes are stupid questions.

Cheers Neil

They are too high up, unless you loosen the splitter from the bumper, and put your towrope in between.

On the Mx-5 Mazda says the eye is only for tying on a cover, but many have towed with it. I think its legal bull****, and I think are for short distance/very little load towing.

the reason I ask is because im doing another trackday soon and one of the rules is this.

TOWING EYES: All vehicles must have towing eyes fitted.

Ah, you will have to fit one that their towtruck can see easily. Shouldnt be difficult to make one that sticks out into the radiator opening.

Browse the web for racing cars, your\'e bound to find some pictures and you can get an idea of whats needed, and what can be done.

For that professional racing finish you need to get a little sticker made up saying TOW in red capital letters and stick it on the body near your new towhook! Thats a regulation too for some race series, could they not just buy the towtruck driver some glasses? :)

Should be making something to go on in next couple of weeks, it will basically be a tube welded to the car with a tube inside that will simply slide in and out as required, and lock into place when on track.

Will post asap.

Did you ever make a set, doing a trackday on the 14th and really struggling to find a company that sells the plate type. The current front rings are covered up by my bumper :(
