does anybody know if i can ditch all this on the std lower runners of an fc?(see pics)
I think its air valve and a diaphram of some sort with 3 hard pipes coming of it, I presume its used for standard rats nest boost circuit.
also the lower runners have a water feed running around the flange which will not be possible to make on my custom runners and flange.
the other thing I cant decide on is material to make it all out of, originally i wanted to use ali for plenum, runners and flanges but the runner bends coming of the plenum that goes down to the inlet flange is to tight a radius to bend using ali tube, so its got to be made from stainless which is heavy and soaks heat for fun!
Im a little paranoid that if its all made from stainless without water jackets, the inlet flange will soak heat from irons and rotor housings, and this heat will rise up the runners to the plenum which will warm intake temps.
anyone any ideas?
Yep I reckon that you could ditch that stuff. If you surf ausrotary enough then you will see plenty of old skool metal with turbo II motors in them and they all pretty much have blanking plates on the manifolds where this stuff has been removed. I would still have a decent talk with a reputable tuner from this forum though in case I am a little wack with my advice.
cheers, your project sounds great by the way. I like reading your new posts each day as it allows us to put more of the puzzle together to see what you are doing.!
cheers, michael.
wow, always love a challenge to find some info. Interesting thread on rx7 club :)

shaunwill you are a diamond :god
thats what im doing only instead of joining to the resrictive lower standard runners ,Im going right down to the inlets in one run.
thats a superb write up and is shown using mild steal, i reckon the diference in air flow through it must be huge, even better if it goes directly onto inlets on irons with 50mm tube.
do you see how he,s welded 2 collets on for injectors, well i was thinking of doing 4 inline with round feet on the 2 end ones that can be drilled and tapped into to hold the fuel rail on. and then another 4 on the outside of the runner bends using the same method.
Ive seen it done on a wrc magnesium plenum and runner 8 injector setup on that 9.8sec subaru that roger clarke built.
once the feet are welded on the runners they are milled flat together and then drilled and bored equi spaced, the same for the fuel rail so it all fits flush and inline.
Its quite a big project in itself really but just imagine how much cubic feet per minute can be squeezed from a t45 through 90mm thrott body, through 4 -50mm smooth runners into 4 bridges :Giggle
also I thought by using 4 - 550s and 4 - 850s the fuel would mix better than your everday 2-850s and 2- 1600s only firing in primary or secodary runners.
Couldn\'t you just make a plate to clamp the runners together so that you only need to do a quick skim op afterwards ?
Definately an interesting topic. I think rx7club has alot more in depth info to such custom jobs like this.
Can\'t wait to hear it at rs3 :)

im gonna get one of the lads in the drawing office to knock some drawings up on cad of all parts shaun when i get it somewhere near.
radius of bends, flange dimensions etc etc
anyone can have a go at making them then!
take rotary power to another level in britain :Giggle
you can only go so far with bolt on standard cast plenums and runners on any type of engine, then precision engineering comes into it :evillaugh
