My car is making a bit of a knocking from the rear, a mate that service my car a week ago recons it requires new dampers sounds fair cars done around 60k on lowed springs.
I’ve looked at the workshop manual seems straight forward but these kind of jobs do, until you have way through.
Any one had any horror stories?
Rough idea on time?
Looking at around £107 + vat per damper, trying to save money....seem like an imposible task with an FD :)
thanks
check its not the bushes first, these are often in need of replacement
Hi Phil, welcome to the club,As Gary says check the Pillow ball bushes, my cars just come up to 60 K, and i just had the two rear top bushes done, i think you can sometimes get some idea of thier condition, by jacking up the rear, grab hold of the wheel at the top and try and pull it outwards and then push it in again, shake it all about! i could feel the play in mine, after it was pionted out to me at last m.o.t. i would have thought if it was the dampers you would see oil leaks, but not sure about that,
good luck,
Bob
Thanks for the responses
I have to say sometimes it sounds like the drivers rear top mount is rattling around, i will try the shaking trick.
I thought the standard dampers are Gas filled hence they normally don\'t get picked up on MOT\'s
