Title: New FD owner, Spark plugs and boost question? thanks
Post by: TD06_FD on March 05, 2006, 11:53:07 PM
Hi everyone.

I\'m new to RX-7 also this forum, I used to drive R32 Skyline GTR.
Just bought a FD RX-7 with Trust TD-06 single turbo.

What engine oil should I use? If its OK to use 4 x heat range "11" HKS iridium plugs I looked at the manual it require different plugs on each side.
What\'s the safe maximum boost, The engine is standard and RE upgraded ECU fitted.

thanks in advance.

I use synthetic (Mobile 1), but conventional should be fine (20w-50). "11" might be too much unless your tracking your car and planning to make ton of power. If street driven, 9\'s should be fine. Also standard plug should be ok vs. platium. Just make sure to change your oil often (I do it 1000 to 1500 miles) and change your plug every other oil change if you can. Rotary engines depend on tuning, you need to change plugs often.

Far as boost, It all depend on your fuel system, what kind of upgrades, and your ECU. I highly recommend getting a PFC instead of chipped ECU. With RE chipped ECU, you have to stick with stock fuel injectors. Without seeing your map of RE chipped ECU, I say stick to 12PSI and get a wideband to check your A/F. Good luck with your new car.. Not sure what you\'ve done to your R32, but 7s are pretty picky. One detonation, you\'ll loose your motor.

Welcome to MRC  :Thumbs-up

Please do not buy Iridium\'s for your Rotary as they could destroy your engine, if you follow this link and read my post you will find out why  :Nono!

All you need is a good quality Mineral oil in your engine, or semi synthetic.
