Title: A weekend of cleaning and polishing.
Post by: chrisBoid on March 05, 2006, 03:18:52 PM
After watching the weather forecast for while, this weekend was slated to be sunny (albeit a bit chilly).  Almost perfect to do the twice yearly \'proper\' wash and clean.  I have to spread it over 2 days because I don\'t have the stamina to do it all in one session.

Wash, polish and protect (plus a good vacuum), all Autoglym products.   I\'m going to try Meguiars as soon as my Autogylm stock runs out.

As usual, pics don\'t do it justice.  Roll on the show season :)

Nice job. Can see you\'ve put in a lot of effort.

I\'m using Meguairs stuff these days and I find it a lot better than AutoGlym. Especially the polish, which goes on & off with ease. Hardly any elbow grease required!

I find the meguirs to be about the best an less you can afford zymol, I have found that if you use the three stage meguires but use some of the T-cut colour coded polish between the polish and the wax stages you get the best results.

Chris, are your rear tyres on the right way round? I thought that the V patten normally faced the other way?

Yep they are on the right way, they match the rotation direction on the tyre sidewall.  Had to check though!

I find the effort is buffing off the polish and gloss protection.  It doesn\'t require pressure but a lot of movement.

I\'ve constantly heard good things about Meguiars, just need to deplete my Autoglym stock.

I started to do mine on Friday evening, but it was so cold that as I leathered it, even with warm water it was freezing before I dried it off. So I went to the pub instead, and its sat there looking a bit grubby. Can\'t wait for a free weekend to do it properly though like yours :)

Very nice looking car Chris!

Totally agree about Meguairs, it\'s excellent stuff. I need to get mine sorted as the paint\'s not really worth a good 3 stage polish at the moment.

All looking very clean. I use Zymol hard wax for the full clean then the liquid for the top up washes in between. And it\'s about time I took a couple of days and re-did the cleaning process.

Here is a pic of what mine looked like after a clean.

I agree about the clay, had loads of overspray on mine, was absolutely amazed at how the clay got rid of it.

Gonna be giving mine the yearly 3 stage treatment after I finish working on the blooming thing.

It\'s good to see us all passionate about keeping our cars so clean :)

Rixio, looks like you\'ve been having a different type of fun with all that snow ;)  You\'re right about Gurj\'s too, mental shine!

Black seems to come up best with Meguiars, must be something to do with it being the most naturally reflective.

i tried using gold class on my black fd the other day. it was fine on my previous black car, but on the rex it left dark streaks and marks unless i rubbed it in really really hard. maybe it was because the paintwork was cold?

I\'ve tried different waxes but find Autoglym to give the best results (must try maguires though):

Autoglym looks a very decent shine don\'t it !!!

I used to use Turtle wax on the Escort Cosworth and it was stunning finishing, thus tried it on the RX and although having to use a sort of burhgundy red version as they dont do purple !!! still very good results  :Laugh

I\'ve just been out and stocked up on some Meguiars gear. So, weather permitting, I\'ll have a real good cleaning session on my car while I\'ve got a couple of days off work.

Bet I\'m gonna be seeing crap weather non-stop now, though!!!

I use Meguiars nowadays and it\'s better than anything else I\'ve ever tried.  I did my car with their three step program and it came up a treat.  Then just use their quik detailer to keep it looking spotless.

Just to upset the apple cart used turtle wax, mer and autoglym whilst they all do the job well the best one i\'ve found so far is Mothers polishes. Got a sample given at Thorsby last year and bought some at JAE polished the car before the rain on the sunday, since then all i\'ve done is rinse the car of and there\'s still a good shine and the waters still beading off.

Cars under a layer of dust at work at the minute Pete heres one taken with the bonnet up at Carls mini meet two weeks ago. Car had just done 200miles through freezing fog on a trailor to get there, then a quick rinse of with a local garage jet wash. http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16982

Has anyone got any recommendations for a car that gets bloody filthy within 2 days??
The perils of living on a busy road.. the car has a nice coating of road dust within an hour. :(

Nice pics though all!

That\'s just one coat of Autoglym super resin polish - It was too cold to faff about, but it seems one coat of this stuff is all it needs.  To wash I use the stuff my jetwash came with - it\'s a large container of this soapy detergenty stuff but as a car shampoo it destroys anything I\'ve used before, and this stuff\'s nice \'n cheap and comes in bulk!

I also tried carnuba wax in the form of Harly Wax from America, and while easier to work with, the shine wasn\'t quite there.  I\'d love to try Zymol Japon but I find it hard to see how it could improve on the incredible glassy shine Autoglym gives.

ok thanks. I use that and then the more expensive runny finishing stuff after and that worked well, but I am very imporessed by your shinyness
