Well I decided to get the rx out for a clean this morning. I put it away Thursday night and she started fine. Last night I checked out and coolant and both needed topping up so have done that. Also found a pip which had come off one of the hard pipes to one of the HKS air filters so put that back.
Go to start this morning and won\'t start :( Not sure if it\'s a dead battery or not and the car is the wrong way round in the garage to try a jump start! It turns over but won\'t fire up....which sounds the same as when the immobilisor has kicked in but not that as I\'ve made sure it\'s off.
If anyone thinks dead battery I\'ll get a new one as batteries on their way out are bad....what settings should I use on a multimeter to check the voltage?
Cheers!
Paul.
Im sure you are aware these cars dont like being just started up for moving off the driveway ect, it tends to flood them, I have invested in a jumpstart pack, well worth the money IMO, can you not take the battery of and get that checked out 1st? After that I think it is most likely flooded.
to test the battery use the nearest rating on the multimeter that you can. You want 12v but the closest might be 20v so use that. Also use the DC setting. If you have started the car in the past and then switched it off again straight after then you have definitly flooded it! press the accelerator pedal to the floor and try starting it....it shoud fire up after a few tries. I think everyone on this forum have flooded their fd :evillaugh take a look here http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21034&highlight=flooded
Battery should be around 12.5 volts to start (anything from 12volt downards would probably need a recharge). If the car is turning over it is very unlikely to be the battery, but if you keep trying you will flatten the battery. Setting for the multimetermeter as above by robbie, DC and on volts.
If a volt meter is not to hand another easy way to check is turn the lights on an try and start the car.... if the lights near enough go out completely, then it might be the battery.
