Title: do i need a rebuild?
Post by: Shaq on October 02, 2003, 08:58:13 AM
I have had my Rex for about 2 months now and am lovin it!  :D

I want to start modifying it now air filter, ecu, etc ….
But the only thing that bugs me is I don’t know if it has had a rebuild yet, I asked the previous owner if it had he said he didn’t know!  (had this confused look.)

I don’t want to start modifying it then it goes pop !

The car has 60,000 on the clock and runs really good (touch wood)

Just wondering where about s can I go to get a compression test done and is the only test that can be done to check if it needs a rebuild?

Thanks

i suppose what rx7 it is

my 2nd gen had done 114k with no rebuild and ran fine

a 3rd gen should last between 60 - 70K

a turbo II - hummm not sure on this - maybe about 60 - 80K with no rebuild

again im not 100% sure , but its a starting point for you

hummm in my opinion i would say that you would need a rebuild in the next say 10K miles ( ish ! )

start saving - cause it aint cheap !!

hummm i dont think a rebuild is part of the Service !

if you have the money - then drive it till it dies - its the only way !

mmmm...

i sure mazda in japan would have picked up if it needed the rebuild?? thing is i know when i spash out a a new ecu and filters ect.. the engine will go pop !

sods law !

hence why i would like to know (if there is) a place that checks to see if the car requires a rebuild.

i suppose you can check it for compression results that will give you some indication

does it use a lot of oil or water , thats another sign

is it easy to start from cold and hot ?

there are many signs that point to a dying engine

it always starts perfectly (touch wood) oil/water are fine.

do you know what the compresion figures should be ?
