Title: Engine Blown or What????
Post by: mlautier on February 25, 2006, 09:59:47 AM
CAN ANYONE HELP Have a problem with my fd and don\'t know if it is engine related or not .

my fd currently lacks compression on the rear rotor and the plugs on this one are wet with fuel. tried the flooding procedure but with no success . The stalls if not revved and it is still evident it does not work properly since it vibrates and make a strange sound. The car har just gone past the 80000km mark on the clock

I have also found 3 metal pipes amongst the vacuum lines that do not have hoses connected to them. Two of these are right under the throttle and one is at the rear of the throttle body. Is this normal , the cause of the flooding problem or one of a series of problems.
Is my engine blown??

If its been compression tested and has no compression on the rear (rears are usually the first to go) then its pretty much a forgone conclusion that its rebuild time.

didn\'t actually compression test it with a gauge . did it myself by taking out the plugs and cranking the engine. front rotor made the distinct chuff sound but the rear made no chuff at all.
What i found strange was that i was cruising round at low speeds normally . I then stopped in traffic for about a minute and to my disappointment the car completely lacked power when i came to drive it.

Sounds like you symptoms are those of a dead engine.
Although if your vaccum lines are missing like you suggest that would be an explanation for lack of power.
Put some photos up if you can

Hi And Welcome.

Don\'t worry about the pipes, they don\'t have anything fitted on to them.

Sadly it does sound like you have lost your engine though  :(

thanks mates,  needed to confirm before i started pulling out the engine.
what\'s more sad is that i was planning of doing the rebuild this summer before the problems pop up. Unfortunately it seems the problems preceeded me.

had already provided for a couple of rebuild videos from Bruce turrentine and DIY 13b and was thinking of doing the rebuild myself. I do not intend much of engines but i have quite some experience in machine overhauling , tool making and the sorts since since i own a machine shop and have done quite some research about the 13b . Even though the videos are quite straight forward and explanatory do you think the task is as sraight forward as the vids imply?

All the dvd\'s you mention are easy to follow and not had one bad comment on the ones Ive sold, nice thing with the rotary is its simplicity compared to a modern piston engine. Ive had begineers to experienced use them.
