Title: newbie question
Post by: dreamer512 on September 29, 2003, 07:06:15 PM
I hate to bore you guys with the same old questions, but I am another person who has been hanging out on the forums a while (though I never post) thinking of getting an rx7 3rd gen.

Going on the advise i have heard about buying one, I am definitely no mechanic nor do I or any one i know, know anything about rotary engines! So besides body work I could never tell a good one from a bad one.

I dont care about the condition of 2nd hand rx7 bodywork too much as I will do a lot of modifications myself anyway!

So, if I buy a cheap cheap rx7 for £6k, and rebuild the engine straight away,..does that make it pretty much fault proof for a good 40k miles if I look after it thereafter?
Also where is a reputable place to do rebuilds and what realistic price would I be looking at?
Thanks
Any comments would be appreciated!

OK, What you have is a good idea. Get yourself a cheaper car, get the engine rebuilt then sort out the pretty side of things. :)

For the engine I can recommend Hayward Rotary (Carl), he rebuilt my engine, and many others on here.

There is also RX Motors, ReWorx, RoTechniks and WGT to name but a few.

That should then be good for circa. 60k miles, so long as oil changes are done and modifications are done in the correct order.

how much is a good budget for a rebuild? I hear from £2000- 4000, a massive range.

Whats a realistic figure? I need the left over money 4 aero styling!
thanks for speedy reply!

It all depends on what modifications you are looking at in the future. Do you want to go for big power? The budget is about right for a standard to a ported engine, if you want to run mental power you will need to look at a bigger budget.

You would be best speaking with the people I listed.
